Marking message as read does't work correctly in .05 build

2005-11-25 Thread Marek Mikus
Hello,
I have discovered strange behaviour.

I have selected option Mark messages as read when it is being read
for 0 sec by default, so message should be marked immediately when I
select it.

But in 3.63.05, no message is marked as read. So I openened account
properties and checked Options section - as I saw, option Mark
messages as read when it is opened in a separate window is marked
instead. So I have selected previous option, closed properties and
checked - it doesn't work - TB changed it again to second one :-(

This is NOT acceptable. This is also a FIRST where MicroEd is changing

I can confirm the duplication of new e-mail in the message list. It's
happening in all my folders, something I cannot work with either, so
this ends my testing.

TB!'s IMAP does seem faster now.

A couple other things:

. new messages added to a threaded list while the folder is being
browsed are still not added to the respective threads. I still have to
exit the folder and then return.

. There's some process occasionally hijacking user input. I'd be typing
a message and then suddenly, no response. No cursor and no new
characters. After about 5 seconds, things snap back to normal. I don't
know what it is. It's not checking for mail that's doing it.

. While fiddling around, TB! stopped marking messages read as I browsed.
I wondered to myself, now what?! I opened the account settings and noted
that I no longer had 'mark messages read after viewing for 0 sec'
enabled. I had the other one about 'marking message read only after
viewing in separate window' enabled instead. I fixed that and went back
to seeing that my messages still were not being marked as read. I
restarted TB!. Now works. I checked the setting. Problem came back
again. I think what's happening is that once I open the account
settings, the mark message as read option is switched to the other one.

since some versions, even with 3.52.14 final there is some error

The message using windows-1258 cuts the last character of the TO
Address and Subject. The same source code using us-ascii displays the
complete words.

I had send this issue some weeks ago to 9Val in private, but he was

Ditto. I have a 16Mb broadband connection. I copied 2000 e-mails to my
Fastmail server as a test. TBird can get it all there in less than a
minute. TB! hangs, sometimes copying only 400 e-mails before quitting.

I also noted with TBird that the message counters for the folder I am
copying to (on the IMAP server) is updated in real time. With TB!,
messages are copied over, I see the message list, but no message
counters appear until I starting marking mail read.

I do not have the duplicate problem.

It also appears IDLE may not work properly. When I have new mail in my
IMAP inbox, TB! always showed unread mail in the box (bold folder
name, message counter shows unread), now that only functions intermittently.

I am beginning to have serious doubts about the future of IMAP on TB!, I
really don't think it will happen... ever. Every IMAP client I can
think of (that works) had IMAP built-in from the beginning. The IMAP
clients that don't work too hot (TB!, Poco, Courier, Pegasus, Eudora), all
started life as a POP client, IMAP was added later and it's broke in
some way or another.

a message and then suddenly, no response. No cursor and no new
characters. After about 5 seconds, things snap back to normal. I don't
know what it is. It's not checking for mail that's doing it.

confirmed..

3.63.05: VFs not refreshing even manually

2005-11-25 Thread MAU
Hello all,

I have a number of VFs that look into a single folder for some keywords
in Text (i.e each VF looks for a different keyword). Well, I have just
noticed that these VFs are not triggered or refreshed when new mail is
received and sorted by Incoming filter into this folder. I have moved
all messages back to Inbox and done a manual re-filter with same results,
no VF is updated. And what is worse, a manual Refresh on each of the
VFs does nothing either. See No_refresh.gif attached.

Exiting and re-starting TB does update and refresh the VFs. See
Yes_refresh.gif attached, this how it should look when email is received
or moved into the folder. However, if I move the messages back to Inbox
and manually re-filter I am back to the situation described above where
no VF is refreshed and even a manual Refresh does nothing.

I have tested with 3.62.14 and everything works as expected, so there is
something new to 3.63.05.

I rely quite a bit on VFs for my normal work, so it looks like I will
have to revert to 3.62.14. I could live with having to manually refresh
VFs, but having to re-start TB each time to make sure a VF is refreshed
is just too much.

Don't feel singled out Vili ;-) but please let's all make things easier

A near traumatic experience

2005-11-25 Thread George M. Menegakis
Hello,

I decided today to move all my tb lists to gmail. So far so good. Then I tried
to move the folders from the old account to the gmail account using the
Move in, move out, move up, move down.

Well the folders moved to the new location. Empty!

I freaked out! I lost all e-mail and I couldn't remember the key combination
to search for lost mail and I wasn't sure if this would work because I'm using
OTFE.

I moved the folders back to the original location and the old messages
appeared again to my great relief.

So I've created the folder structure to the old account and copied the
messaged (I didn't dare to move them) to the new location.

...and to my grief I have to recreate the templates.

The move in, move out, move up, move down is very problematic. Is there
already a BT entry or should I create a new one?

As you say in your previous message, it seems to be about the luck of

However, I've stopped blaming my end too much. I've explored and tuned

It's faster now, but not yet smooth. I'm still waiting. :)

Re[2]: Tab key buggy behaviour on Properties and Preferences screen

2005-11-25 Thread Vili
Hello MAU,

Option, Preferences. Select any item on the left, e.g. System. You
have to press Tab key MANY times to reach the right pane. In case of
System it is 12, in case of Protection, 66 times or so...
 Please confirm it.
Same is true for the Account, Properties screen.
In which version have you seen the problem you are reporting, in Vogayer
3.64.4, in TB 3.63.5 or in TB 3.62.14 that you are using to post?
Don't feel singled out Vili ;-) but please let's all make things easier
for the rest by using meaningful subjects and, if possible, pointing out
the version numbers we are referring to.

I dont feel singled out. If you would have taken the time to READ MY
SIGNATURE, you could have seen the version number, that I am referred
too.

But I guess, all versions include this bug yet, so again: if you could
have taken the time (I estimate it to be 5 sec max.) just simply check
with your version (that also contains the bug) instead of trying to
preach to me...

Meaningful subject? What else should I have written there

If your goal is to kick into me, I can send a picture, print it and
spit on it anytime you want :

Yeah, I am angry now... :(( Ok, I understand that you missed my
signature, but I THINK, that by default we refer to the current
version, always... But one more kick from you based on un-meaningful
subject... H

Hello Vili,

If you would have taken the time to READ MY SIGNATURE, you could have
seen the version number, that I am referred too.

Why do you think I asked or in TB 3.62.14 that you are using to post?

 I dont feel singled out.

Yes, you did. Why, if not, do you write ... instead of trying to
preach to me...?

Ok, I understand that you missed my signature,

No I did not. Why do you think I asked or in TB 3.62.14 that you are

Meaningful subject? What else should I have written there

My specific question to you, Vili, was:

| In which version have you seen the problem you are reporting, in Vogayer

`-

When I write: please let's all make things easier for the rest by using
meaningful subjects... I include myself and wasn't specifically
referring to you, at least in the message I was replying to. But using
meaningful subjects was suggested, one more time, not too long ago.

Yes, I think you felt singled out :)

Eudora), all started life as a POP client, IMAP was added later and
it's broke in some way or another.

I find this new release encouraging. I think they're close.

I've now using Becky! at home and Mulberry at work. I've tried
Thunderbird, MozillaMail, Poco Mail, Pegasus Mail, Eudora, Gemini and
OperaMail and:

..if TB!'s IMAP functionality were to remain as is, and this
functionality made to work *reliably* and quickly, they'd have the best
IMAP client being developed now. Mulberry still is the best, but it's
no longer being developed. Even if TB! were to be reliable and fast,
Mulberry would be the technically better IMAP client because of more
extensive protocol support. However, most, including myself, do not
need all the IMAP protocol support to be getting along nicely. So TB!
would become my hands down choice if it were to just work well without
the many glitches that occur. So many glitches that make you wonder
what is happening. Is it the server? Is it TB!? Is it the connection??
Is it a problem with my system? Is it a problem with my message base
cache? Is it a problem with my TB! configuration? I was getting tired
of this.

When using Becky! and/or Mulberry, if I'm having trouble, it's either
the connection or the servers... simple. That actually makes the
problems very few then and much easier to trouble shoot. I can just do
my stuff without the headaches of wondering what could be wrong when
something isn't right.

You are not necessarily right. Some extensions are never opened, as

There is a white list of extensions where no dialog is appearing, all
the other extensions are opened after the confirmation dialog you are

However, the lists of extensions are customisable in

subject TB3.63.05 allows opening of all kind of files :

It gives a warning if double extension is detected, but allows
 executing even of exe-attachments.

 Confirmed with 3.63.05!

Re[2]: Search very fast!

2005-11-25 Thread MAU on TBBeta
Hello Mark,

Unbelievable! A search that took 1:35 min before now takes 5
seconds!!! What did you do? Works great!
M Yes, great improvement. I never really complained about search speed
M because it seemed quite reasonable at list on my system, but the
M improvement is really noticeable now :)
 ± 7500 messages
 23 accounts
search for Acronis in the text of the files.
finds 39 mails in 11 folders of 2 accounts
 takes 1 min 59 seconds.
1.xx and 2.xx were much faster over here...

Are you sure? When did you compress the folders last time. I searched
for Acronis using my 60 000 mails, it took 1:30.

Believe me, it is fast. Try to use Outlook :) That would take forever
:)))

Re: Cosmetic issue in Edit Folder Properties

2005-11-25 Thread TBBETA
Hello Zeynel,

In Folder Properties, there isn't any big box seen in template,
forward and reply tabs, everything is in white. See attachment.
TB! 3.62.13 was displaying it fine.
 Confirmations?

Not confirmed here.

I fell back to 3.62.14 because 3.63.05 changes my accounttreewindow and
my messagewindow.

Re: IMAP

Agree 100%. However, the key word is if and this is the continuing
frustration with TB!. But, is Ritlab's focus on developing TB!? The
promised focus on IMAP has been dangled in front of this group for
what seems a lifetime but I've seen precious little evidence of this.
Sure, we've had Voyager (wow! another peripheral toy), tabs, colour
groups etc which appear to make the prog's stability and usefulness go
backwards.
