Glad to hear I'm not a beta tester! :-)

I have better things to do than reporting about folders disappearing from TB!
It's something that has been going on for years and I have to type in the
names one by one every time. It often takes some time before I see they have
disapeared (f.i. when a message that should have been filtered to it stays in
the inbox) because a lot of the folders are seldom used.

I never lost any messages, nor folders physically, they simply disappeared
from TB!

I have come to live with it. Perhaps someone who knows what is happening (or
should happen) when one uses the Ctrl-Alt-Shift-L combination should write an
external tool for us, poor lads, who are not capable of getting this to work!
:-)

BTW: I can imagine solving this problem in an OFTE setup can be more
time-consuming.

ASK You can't even reproduce it, or describe what happened before you lost the
ASK folders.

Since it can take some time before I notice yet another one has disappeared
that would ask for a constant logging of all activities on the PC. But then I
would not be able to run anything. OTOH: the problem would be solved too!
:-)

Hi Roelof, Hi Alexander!

I sure have weekly backups or at least backups every two weeks. But the
folders on the hard disc don't help much, because the names are also
 encrypted.
I thought the folder configuration was kept in a file account.flb or
something like that - so this would be the only file to restore. Someone
who knows more about that must comment on it.

Ah this sounds very very interesting! :-)

Could be a quick dirty solution to the problem. Plus I do not create or
rename folders very often.

Well, that's about that is to know about it.
the file is called account.flb and stores the names and directories for
all folders, including folder properties like identity and templates.
On OTFE configurations the file is called account.efb
Every account has its own file, the mail directory has one for the common
 folders.

I have a lot of files in the specified directories. I attached a directory
listing for the MAIL directory plus the directory of my main account.

As you can see, a lot of junk is there also. It seems that migrating to
OTFE did not vanish all the unencrypted files (see file date/time). An
intersting question is what files I can remove without killing my
configuration. ;-) But still having unencrypted files isn't the way it
should be.

Now, does anybody know if the folder.* or the account.* is the file which
could help me getting back the folders when they get missing?

Hi Bob, Hi Thomas!

Would it help - and make your life easier - if your TB folders AND TB

problem that I gather is not completely new to you?
I certainly advise against that. My Windows XP is currently unusable

D: holds the programs, and E: holds the data (including message bases). I
 don't fear a formatting of C:.

This is one of the reasons I prefer having TB on one of my data drives.

A second reason is that I often sychronize TB to my notebook. For this the
quickest solution is synchronizing the TB directory (everything, which
means program files plus data files, is inside this directory) to the same
location (in my environment D:\INTERNET\TheBat) plus copying the registry
keys.

And to those who responded to your frustration: I do think it is not
helpful for any of us to use derogatory terms like whining. Everyone
 loses.

Well, I sure was a bit harsh when bringing up the thread. But I really was
p*ssed that this happend again. I knew that this will be a lot of work to
get the folders back into TB so I wasn't very amused.

But I still can't understand why the people got upset, too. I was
complaining about the program and the company behind it, not the people
here in the list.

I have tried 3.96.05 in another home directory on the same computer and it
works there, both instances have auto-update enabled. Strange

Hi Paul!

If only you are affected [...]
 He is not.
However, here it only happens with Virtual Folders - create them, close
TheBat, open TheBat - poof, folder vanished into thin air. This is
 completly reproducable.
(As always, this is seen using v3.0.1.33.)
I have used TB since v1 and win 95 thru XP and v3.95.06. Since I have
become a 100% Voyager user I have not been testing the betas due to time
constraints. I do not use common folders but use virtual folders and have
yet to see the problem. I have 100's of customers using TB and none of
them have had the problem either.

I'm glad hearing that.

But fact is, that people have problems with TB you don't have. Could you
please just accept that?

Perhaps different management techniques bring more positive results.
If this statement is true then it is also possible that your problem
is not the fault of the program. Determination of the root cause is
the first step in rectifying a problem.

Re: Again: lost folders in folder-list!

2007-02-13 Thread MAU
Hello Martin,

A second reason is that I often sychronize TB to my notebook. For this the
quickest solution is synchronizing the TB directory (everything, which
means program files plus data files, is inside this directory) to the same
location (in my environment D:\INTERNET\TheBat) plus copying the registry
 keys.

How do you do/achieve synchronisation? I'm wondering if your lost
folders could be a consequence of this.
