Hello tbbeta, if you click on 'Fullscreen', the image viewer uses the complete screen to display the picture. BUT if you close the fullscreen mode with ESC, the viewer goes wild! There is no chance to enter the fullscreen mode again unless you close and reopen the picture. If you choose the fullscreen mode for a second time (after having closed it with ESC), you will get a picture without a menu but with a visible background (desktop or other apps) around it. If you close the fullscreen mode either by double click or by context menu, the viewer behaves as expected! Confirmation?
