In reply to mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED] :

One more: disable your AV completely. What happens then?

MB Okay. I'm on broadband. I'll have to unscrew my cable connection to
MB maintain safety. But I know how to do that.

You should get a Firewall, A-Virus won't keep you safe unless they
have a firewall component.

Since you use TB and are behind a router you are fairly safe already. I

problem down if you are able to receive with both AV FW off.

MB Thanks. It's my Sygate Firewall that's the culprit. The Dispatcher
MB offers me the mail perfectly with it off and F-Secure anti-virus on.

MB The Bat! is in my set of Allowed applications in Sygate, but
MB something in .15 and .16 isn't meshing with the Sygate configuration.

MB As you say, I'm pretty safe behind the router. Right now I have Sygate
MB set to Allow All. But it won't tell me, now, if something new tries
MB to phone home. I've been looking in the settings for a way to except
MB The Bat! but still keep all the other incoming/outgoing security
MB settings in place.

MB So far, can't find them. I may have to switch from Sygate to Kerio. Or
MB even get F-Secure's firewall, which was offered to me in a suite when
MB I renewed my AV program, last fall.

MB Anyway, the good news: I'm up in v. .16 and testing by using it as I
MB normally use The Bat! (Except for an enabled software firewall
MB running.)

MB Thanks a mil, Greg, and everyone else who's been working with me on
MB this problem.

Give Outpost PRO a try at www.agnitum.com . It has worked very well
for me for some time, is easy to use but feature rich.
