Re: Unix mailboxes: .mbox or .mbx or no extension at all?
Hello Rick and Jens, thank you both for your opinions on that topic. Unix mailboxes: .mbox or .mbx or no extension at all?
Hello all, there are possibilities in The Bat to save, to export or to import messages to/from unix mailbox files. According to RFC 4155, page 4 mbox database files sometimes have an .mbox extension, but this is not required nor expected. The RFC says nothing about the extension .mbx. There are some inconsistencies in The Bat referring to that. You can save messages to .MBX files via Save as...-dialogue in main window. You can import or export mails from and to .MBX-files via Tools-menu, however when opening these dialogues, the window to choose a file does not filter for unix mailbox files. The dialogue says All Files (*.*). When exporting messages to unix mailbox, no extension is added, which is OK according to RFC 4155, nevertheless, since The Bat is a windows software and Windows users are accustomed to file extensions, it would be appropriate to have file extensions for the dialogues mentioned above. My suggestion: The Bat should use the extension .mbox throughout the entire program, according to RFC 4155. No extension might confuse windows users. The dialogues should filter for .mbox files and the correct extension should be attached automatically. What are your opinions about that? -- Best regards, mse Using The Bat! v4.2.13.8 ALPHA with German language file [4.2.x_de – Rev.
