Hi Rick,

I too still have the exe for version 4 in my prog folder and can
rename it back if I feel the need.

Are you sure? Wasn't there some issue with the mailbase if you
switched back over major versions? Or does this only affect POP users?

AFAICR the only real problem is the message timestamp as the UTC offset is stored in a different way.

Sorry, I haven't taken much notice of this problem, if it still occurs.

The times shown on your message are the same in both versions, but perhaps
once the message haas been received there is no problem. It may only occur
during the initial download, depending on which version does the download.

There are problems with some of the virtual folder filters in version 5 and
in the one VF that I have which filters according to the messages being less
than 22 days version 5 shows three more messages than version 4. A quick
check seems to show that they are three older messages.

Yes, the brand image. Well, IMHO v5 is still in beta stage, and I

I believe so, at least I was told it was possible with eearly

 differently.

RF OK.

Hello Rick,
Monday, June 6, 2011, 12:18:19 PM, you wrote:

Why would ANYONE on the Beta Test list be considering moving back to v4 ?

Because they installed the official release of V5 a few months back assuming
that it went through a full beta and would work fine with maybe a few minor
bugs. What they found was a release that should never have seen the light of
day. It's really really bad. Did I have enough really's in there... really,
really bad They were hoping that they would get fixes for the multitude of
problems with the official V5 release.
I installed the official release and had so many issues with filters, AV,
twice daily hangs and virtual folder issues, that I was spending over an hour a
day just dealing with my email client bugs. So, I was on this beta list hoping
to find quick fixes, making the stupid assumption that all my problems with the
official release would soon be fixed.
As I watch this list, I can say with no doubt that none of the bugs that I
have are fixed yet. These are major issues and still not fixed. This is
incredible. Really poor management at RitLabs.
IMHO Release 5 is still beta and if you want to run production, V4 is the only
way to go. So, I am back to 4 for production, still using 5 for beta testing
and waiting patiently to see my bugs fixed, however, if past history ( read the
threads about all the IMAP issues) is any indication, maybe we will have to
wait for v6 after we pay for the upgrade to get basic v5 functionally.
What I don't understand... Can anyone answer this... I check the official
TheBat list and I do not see that much activity. Does that mean that no one
new has purchased TheBat??? Does it mean that the new users don't know that it
is seriously broken? Does it mean that we, beta testers, are the only
users... If there were a substantial list of new TheBat customers I would
expect TheBat list would have many posts.
Any ideas?

maybe a few minor bugs. What they found was a release that should
never have seen the light of day. It's really really bad. Did I
have enough really's in there... really, really bad They were
hoping that they would get fixes for the multitude of problems with the
 official V5 release.
I installed the official release and had so many issues with
filters, AV, twice daily hangs and virtual folder issues, that I
was spending over an hour a day just dealing with my email client
bugs. So, I was on this beta list hoping to find quick fixes,
making the stupid assumption that all my problems with the official release
 would soon be fixed.
As I watch this list, I can say with no doubt that none of the
bugs that I have are fixed yet. These are major issues and still
not fixed. This is incredible. Really poor management at RitLabs.
IMHO Release 5 is still beta and if you want to run production, V4
is the only way to go. So, I am back to 4 for production, still
using 5 for beta testing and waiting patiently to see my bugs fixed,
however, if past history ( read the threads about all the IMAP
issues) is any indication, maybe we will have to wait for v6 after
we pay for the upgrade to get basic v5 functionally.
What I don't understand... Can anyone answer this... I check the
official TheBat list and I do not see that much activity. Does that
mean that no one new has purchased TheBat??? Does it mean that the
new users don't know that it is seriously broken? Does it mean that
we, beta testers, are the only users... If there were a
substantial list of new TheBat customers I would expect TheBat list would
 have many posts.
 Any ideas?

I didn't realize this was a bash list. I thought we were trying to help FIX the
flaws and bugs in V5. I have my list of things I want fixed too

I thought Version 5.0.12.13 WAS a beta - did I miss something? By all means,
keep your customers on v4 until you feel v5 is ready for prime time for them

I just hear a lot of bitching and threatening to go back to v4 which IMO is NOT
the reason for this list. We have people that don't even USE the bat that
occasionally come onto the beta list just to bash it.

How about we get back to finding and reporting bugs

Re: Version 4

2011-06-06 Thread Rick
 Hi Rick,

Why would ANYONE on the Beta Test list be considering moving back to v4 ?

The question is: Who else would? A beta is a program that someone does
find acceptable for release but wants to get more information from the
installed base if it really is. So normally it comes with a warning
that it should not be use for productive use.

So if the beta does not turn out to be cool, I would consider to go
back to a version that suits me. With in this case would be v4 for
 most people.

Go ahead - do as some do and run it for every day use and test the beta as your
schedule permits. My problem is with the out of control ain't it awful on a
list where we should be concentrating on testing and reporting bugs etc.

Sorry, I am not interested in this thread any more

Because we have important daily business to conduct that requires
an email client without performance/stability issues.

I've had both of those qualities with v5. I no longer have any POP
accounts, because I forward all my mail to my IMAP account, so I can't

The reason why I want to move back to 4.22 is that for last month I
spent part of my work time dealing with issues while I should be
working. It causes delays while replying, lost some e-mails after

Why on TBBETA? Because you are the people that knows TB! more than

Same as many of you, I'm going to setup v5 on the second computer for
testing :)

Once again, thank you for your support and opinions.
I hope that we can consider the thread closed now :)

Hi,

Is version 4.22 working properly as it should?
Is it possible to import v4 database/filters and all the stuff to v5
after it's fixed?

Is it possible to export v5 (current one I spent lots of time on
setting filters and sorting e-mails) to TB! v4.22?

And question to developers:
Can I use the key I have purchased for v5 with v4 and use it with v4
till the moment when v5 starts working properly so I do not have to
fight with it every day..?

Even official 5.0.12 release gives me exceptions and access
violations daily ; autobackup stopped working ; only part of messages
in VF are shown ; number of messages is not correct (=0 instead of
91/85/126/11) ; annoying popup to enter a password to an account that
is set to be not checked ; and so on.

Just found out that can't mark messages shown in VF (showing new
messages) as read because the number of new messages is 0. Had to
close TB! so Not Read count was proper and after that I was able to
use CTRL+M.

Correct count was shown for about 25 seconds ; after that all VF were
equal to 0.

IMHO, TB!v4 is the best POP client in the world. No Access Violations, no

folders and subfolders. The only area in which v5 may be better is

Yes, you will be able to upgrade without loss of data or settings. (At
least that is the plan.) I am waiting until the current beta series
leading to a v5 is at a point where I dare install it. I am sure that
will be soon, but I currently depend too much on my email to give it a
try. And I don't have a spare computer at the moment.

I believe so, at least I was told it was possible with eearly betas.
The messages base format was slightly changed, but I understand you
will only experience that the timestamps of the messages will be
wrong, as your local offset to GMT is handled differently.
