Will bugs being fixed this cycle?

2005-08-17 Thread Boris Anders
Hello -=Curtis=-,

Are you going to fix bugs in this version? Especially bugs which are
 made in 3.50.xx?

This current release contained a long list of fixes with bugtraq codes
beside the majority of them and you ask this???

As you (or at least I) never know what Ritlabs is doing next [1]: Yes.

[1] My guess is, that there will be two more betas, which introduce
incomplete features, then the look to the date and release v4 :-).

They've always addressed bugs from previous versions. This current
beta demonstrates this. So to answer your specific question, the
answer would certainly be yes.

Whether or not they go on to introduce new features that introduce new
bugs and issues, which in turn distract them from adequately/promptly
dealing with old bugs, is another thing. This seems to be what you
were specifically referring to.

To that, I'd say that it seems to me that with their current approach
where simply debugging is too boring and greatly reduces productivity
or motivation for them, this issue of some easily reproducible and
significant bugs existing for long periods before being fixed will
remain. We just have to hope that what isn't important for many will
not be show-stoppers for us as individuals.

DAC This would be my attitude as well. If there were a draft folder, then

Sorry for jumping in this late, but just in this second there was one thing
that came to my mind.
I was not sure if I remembered correctly so I said nothing but right now I
made a test ... successfully!!! (that means I remembered correctly *g*)

Have a look at the tiny little icon of your outbox ... isn't it nice? :-)
A nice folder with a green arrow pointing outward :-)

Now create a new message ... type only a recipient in (otherwise TB! wont let
you save, even not at draft ... another thing I can't really understand ...
but OK) ... and Save as draft (I do use Alt+F2 for it, you can of course
also use the menu for it :-) ).
Now have again a detailed look at the icon in front of the outbox
You see the tiny little hourglass in the lower left corner???

Go into the Outbox ... use Ctrl+D (or menu command) to unset the 'parking'
(draft) flag. The hourglass disappears. The icon turns from yellow to green,
the folder becomes written in bold. Set the parking flag again (by mouse
click, menu command or Ctrl+J), the bold disappears, green turns to yellow,
hourglass appears ...
On ... Off ... On ... Off ... Mark the message as 'unread' (even is this does
not make any sense :-) ) ... green/yellow turns to read. Park the message: red
icon plus hourglass ..

All in all: there _IS_ an indicator if there're drafted messages in outbox :-)
OK ... it could be somehow better visible/recognizable but nevertheless you
can't deny the fact _it is there_ :-)

That's just my 0.02 € I wanteed to spend to this discussion :-)))

P.S.: Please don't terminate my if the colors differ!!! This could be
because I use a customized 'glyphs.bmp' or you do :-)

I think that's by design. Actually, I like it.

Hm, it has changed from 1.53o to 1.54. The problem for me is that I draft
messages very seldom. A bold Outbox remembers me: There is something in
the Outbox which you have to handle - either an unsent message or a draft.
DON'T FORGET. See no reason why this should be changed, actually.

1.) There will still be a 1 instead of a 0 in the number of
messages column. This means there is something in the outbox.

2.) We will get a draft folder if we keep lobbying, I hope. ;-)

Yeah, but it's quite small (and with this additional horizontal scroll bar
I have to keep it small to not continuously have the whole screen
shifted). Well, I have to be honest, it's simply hard if you relied on the
bold thing to now take care of the number. But I'm willing to learn: What
advantage has it to un-bold it? Okay - in the other folders bold means:
'unread message in it', and not 'something to do'. But what advantage
(besides of the logic) is there?

This would also be ok [one of the things which were not to bad in OE], but
for me (three heavily used mail accounts, which are always open) this
would mean three additional folders on the left side. Outbox was an
effective way of putting two 'meanings' into one (I said before, that I'd
like the style 1.53 and all previous versions had :-)).

Well, perhaps someone could create a poll and let the users vote on
it. That would be a fair way to let RITLabs know what the die-hard
users want, and it'll be fair too. Personally, I prefer the old way to
the new one.

Hi, Gunther!

GE Yeah, but it's quite small (and with this additional horizontal scroll bar

GE advantage has it to un-bold it? Okay - in the other folders bold means:
GE 'unread message in it', and not 'something to do'. But what advantage
GE (besides of the logic) is there?

Well - for me for example, when I have any unread messages, the bat's
icon is animated. I use this as a little reminder that I have some
messages to read. Therefore, if I have any messages in the outbox that
would make the outbox bold, they would also make the bat icon fly and
thus make it impossible for me to know whether I really have some mail
I should read.

Note - I haven't actually tried the new version, but it sounds like an
improvement to me, since just having a message in the outbox shouldn't
make the icon animate.
