Ok.

See your photo with arrows added. If you click and drag that line all
the way up, you should be in single email view...at least it works for
me..

Perhaps I misunderstand - this doesn't change anything, I double click on
a message in the message view (see cursor on messageview image) and then I

If I drag the message view over the account tree like you seem to suggest
nothing changes. In my default setup, I have the account tree top left
half, folder view bottom left half and message view full right half.
