This is not currently an option :-(.

It should be possible by exporting a message, altering it and then

1.62i will not run with my 1.53d mail database

2003-03-29 Thread Tim Magee
People,

  I just tried to upgrade from 1.53d to 1.62i on a Win2k pro w/s
machine. My Mail database folder is directly under 'My Documents'.
It contains about 2k messages, almost all in one account.

I did the over-install as suggested on the download page. Here's what
  happened.

Initial install of 1.62i over 1.53d:
- setup ends, TheBat! tries to run, shows the logo for about a
  minute and then quits.

Save HKCU\Software\RIT to a .reg file then scrub and re-install
  from scratch:
- ran OK but with empty mail database folder in the default
  location.

In Options, change the mail database folder to ...My Documents\BatMail\:
- back to the show-logo-hang-and-quit behaviour

Restore *only* the software registration string from the saved .reg file
(in case there's some limit to how much mail the unreg'd TheBat!
  will happily look at)
- still shows logo, hangs, quits.

Scrub 1.62i, reinstall 1.53d, quit when Setup starts asking
questions about TCP/IP setup, restore HKCU\Software\RIT from the
  .reg file
- 1.53d works as it always did.

Has anybody else experienced the same? Is there a secret debug
switch on the command line that'll tell me what 1.62i is doing
  for the minute it's alive?

  Cheers,
  timM

Ok - I've double checked it now with no anti-virus running or
firewalls or anything such, just the bat, and it hangs in the middle
of either getting the number of message, or getting the first or
second messages, for about 3 minutes every time. Nothing to do with
anti-viruses zone alarm or any of these things. Plain old dial-up
connection here, nothing fancy in my setup really. Checking mail on
one account only.

Any point in trying the beta version to see if it disappears ?

All the best,
Aidan.

I am having this issue daily... usually when I leave the Bat open for a few
hours or so... and it seems to be just checking email, not downloading
anything... I would agree that it might be a winsock issue also as when the
connection centre locks up, I have trouble getting to everyday websites (like
google) and only rebooting seems to fix it (ipconfig/renew gets an error)

The Bat Plug-in Settings With Kaspersky

2003-03-29 Thread Kim
Hi All,

In setting up The Bat's virus protection plug-in with Kaspersky, I
wondered which setting is the most recommended (for how the plug-in
handles a virus when it is detected):

1. Move to the Quarantine folder

2. Remove infected parts

3. Delete the message

For those that use this plug-in, which setting do you find is the most
effective?

Thanks in advance.

Is it always the same account? I get the same problem once in a
while(a few times a week) with 2(out of 4) of my accounts. Those 2
accounts are with separate mail servers(one with Hotmail and the other
with my ISP), and they do get busy and have a lot of users, and the
slow down is usually during peak time. And, the Hotmail account is not
accessed via The Bat!, but via Outlook Express and the mail filtering
is done via MailWasher. When the connection to the mailserver is slow
via MailWasher, it usually is slow with TB. Sometimes it timeouts.

Any point in trying the beta version to see if it disappears ?

I don't think it would disappear.

no, I would not try the beta if I was you, it has created its own set of
bugs:)
you might try disabling the automatic mail check, then try the Account
nenu-Dispatch mail on server-select All messages. This should show you
all the messages on the server, then maybe you can see the problem. At
least something to try:)

K Hi All,

Kim, there is an option for Kaspersky AV to notify you that it has found
a virus, and then you have the options you listed, to Quarantine, Remove
the Infected Parts, or Delete. So you can make a decision on individual
messages that Kaspersky finds infected, according to your judgment at
the time.

This is how I have mine configured, but so far I have chosen to delete
the message, the few times I've been notified that I was downloading an
infected message. Those times were bad judgment calls that I made when I
looked at the list of mails on the server--for instance, I had just seen
a warning about So Big on Rootsweb's Virus Discussion List and if I had
been paying attention to the message size I could have deleted it on the
server.

It will depend on how likely you are to need what's in a message, I
think. Some people would prefer to quarantine rather than delete.

Just my 2 cents worth. :)

most viruses I have received were from people I didn't know, who had
their addressbooks hijacked. These messages got deleted on the spot. I
haven't seen a macro virus in a WORD doc in quite a while, those were
the files or docs I would have wanted to keep. Even if the email is from
someone you know, more than likely the email will be a virus that the
person did not intentionally send to you, so it isn't worth opening or
saving...

Kim, I personally prefer to move anything suspicious to the Quarantine

The Bat! supports TLS v1 protocol, which is mainly based on SSL v3.
You can activate it in Connection option in Account Properties,
