DG Isn't this what Auto-format does?

Yes. I keep telling people this, but nobody wants to get it and I
get fed up trying. I use it on a toggled basis. Sometimes I want
auto-reformat (typing, inserting, post-paste ... because the paste
operation itself doesn't trigger it but the next space press does)
and sometimes I want it out of the way (typing lists, hanging/indent
paragraphs, formatted text).

It's there as a toggle on Ctrl+Shift+F and I just toggle it on/off
at will and MicroEd rules.

It's not really the same as soft wrapping, but I see no difference
in usage, just a difference in theory. Okay, one difference. With
softwrap you could get round one of the limitations of autowrap.
Separate paragraphs without a blank line as in lists, but that
doesn't help the hanging indent format. Oh yes, paste would probably
wrap properly at once without the extra keystroke, but I'd say
that's a bug that could possibly be fixed. (One day.) (If I ever
report it as such.) (In so many words.) (Shut up Marck.) (Okay.)

TB - BSODs

2004-02-15 Thread John Eadie
Hi TBUDL,

I wonder if TB can ever cause (or be related
to some other software that causes) recurrent BSODs
(Blue Screen of Deaths). It seems to cause BSODs here.

They happen, if I'm trying to work, every 2-5 minutes.
Previously I had a very stable SuperMicro Dual CPU W2K system.
I'm going to have to re-install or go back to a previous
registry state, I guess. Meanwhile I boot to
Linux, where's there's no TB.

However - the BSODs do NOT happen, if I DON't use The Bat!!!

The BSOD error:

o The BSOD message is the STOP 0xD1 DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.
This indicates `that a kernel-mode driver attempted to access
pageable memory at a process IRQL that was too high'.

It can mean hardware / driver problems (the logical and most usual
cause) but also can mean that your CPUs are not being cooled well
enough, and also .. Microsoft talks a reference in a Microsoft
document about some `system software' occasionally
   causing this error.

But it's hard to believe it's hardware itself. I've been running
happily on the same hardware configuration for 3 years. Also
I've desperately replaced boards, checked disk memory over
and over anyway - no fix.

MY internet is a bit more flakey on W2K than Linux also,
but I did change the NIC from a board to an in-built SuperMicro
NIC, using a different driver.

I'd be happy for any advice, or suggestions.

Thanks,

-jae

have wanted the same thing here with out having to copy and paste to 31
accounts, ESPECIALLY if I want to make a change that is reflected in all of
them. Some of my other requests are:
   - Have the accounts that generate an error change font color or get flaged
some how in the accounts pane. Hearing the error chime 4 times and not
knowing which account might be the one that did it is rather annoying.
   - Be able to disable the multi-thread receive email function and just do one
account, then move to the next one.

Could you also help me politely nag about being able to make change to
account settings globally - like change the smtp server for alla
ccounts or a checkbox selected selection of accounts, or don't check
at startup for all or a checkbox selected selection - i.e: for any
settings in properties.

IMO, it's only relationship with BSOD's is that it needs to use/access
the problem part of the system and as a result the BSOD's occur. You
then incorrectly blame it for being the cause of the problem when all
it's doing is showing up the problem.

It doesn't even matter if it's not happening with another network
application. When I initially bought this laptop I'm using the BIOS
version and adapter drivers weren't tangoing and I was getting a lot
of BSOD's. It seemed that IE was the application that triggered BSOD's
on most occasions.

Just recently, I had to deal with another bout of mysterious BSOD's
and it seemed to have been secondary to a bad USB hub. I did have to
do a repair install etc since I didn't know the cause and I still had
occasional BSOD's after the repair install. However, the problem
completely vanished after removing the hub.

JE They happen, if I'm trying to work, every 2-5 minutes. Previously

JE The BSOD error:

JE o The BSOD message is the STOP 0xD1 DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.

This is rather non-specific and was what I got on the second of the
two BSOD periods. Very likely a corrupted driver, a driver
encountering a new situation with its bugginess/incompatibility
surfacing. Lastly it could be bad/defective hardware. Let's hope it's
the software.

JE But it's hard to believe it's hardware itself.

I'd hope not myself.

Ok. So it's not a port or something so.

I'd try a restoring to a previously working restore point or doing a
repair installation.

It took me awhile to discover auto-format. Maybe this should be
something included in the install notes - or more easily found in the
manual?

Not sure if this is what March and other do, but I keep auto-format on
and toggle it off when needed (usually for creating lists). But you can
leave it off and toggle it ON as needed, too.

Note that toggling is temporary - turning auto-format on or off from
the what you have as default is for that message only. TB returns to
your normal setting after you send that message (I love this).

Slash zero?

2004-02-15 Thread rich gregory
Hello Batters!

Anyone know a decent way to ensure my PC displays and prints slash
zeros rather than letter O-like zeros?

I suppose finding a suitable font and switching all my programs to
use it as a default could be the answer, but I have yet to come across
one.

I know there's a way to tell MS Word to display ( print?) an
upper-case O then backup up and overlay a slash! Not worth the
trouble.

Maybe edit some current font myself and fix the zero or maybe
substitute a character from a Finnish character set!
