Re: Undeletable mail

2004-09-19 Thread Clive Taylor
I tried TB with my fastmail account a while back, and gave up. I
ended up deleting the fastmail account and stuck to POP3 accounts
 for TB.

Strange. I use Fastmail as my main email account and route all my
domain traffic though it lawlessly. What was the problem you had -
just curious.

VF problem when fastsearching for flagged messages

2004-09-19 Thread Frank J de Bruin

I have set up a common virtual folder that lists all messages that are
Flagged. The folder is set to autofresh and I use the fast search
option. The flagged messages are found.

However, when I toggle the flag attribute for one message, the
attribut changes not only for the selected message, but for others
too.

There is no apparent relation between which messages are changing.
They are in different folders and different accounts. It does not
happen for all or even most of the flagged messages. But it makes the
system quite unreliable.

I have tried different think like re-creating the virtual folder,
doing a consistency check on all the folders (this last operation
declared my Flagged folder to be damaged 'no message base' but didn't
repair it). I cannot get rid of this annoying bug.

Have others seen the same behaviour? Are there any suggestions? It
would be a reason for me to move 3.0 if this was the only thing fixed.

Ah, so not Fastmail itself, then! You could have tweaked their
excellent SIEVE based filters to have taken care of that.

Apart from that I don't know what you mean. You can add sounds to the
properties of the account, to the properties of folders and as action
for filters, but they all have to be configured on purpose by the
user.

IMO an excellent advantage is the addition of PGP Disk (not available in the freeware

Well the best explanation can probably be found at:
http://www.mccune.cc/PGPpage2.htm#PGPdisk

but I will try to explain it a little for you.

Basically PGP Disk allows you to create virtual hard disks. These are simply an
encrypted container(s) (basically just a file on your hard disk) which you can mount
as a system drive e.g. D:, E:, F:, G: etc. etc and it acts just like a hard drive.

This disk can be mounted and dismounted as you wish and it is protected by either a
passphrase or your PGP key (or even both).

In my own usage of PGP Disk, I have moved my mail base, newsgroups data, my browser
preferences/cache/favourites etc. My Documents and my IM (Instant messaging) profiles
and as many user preferences as possible, to run off the PGP disk which itself needs
to mounted at logon for them to be available to the user (Me).

Advantages:

- User data (anything inside the container) is encrypted with strong encryption and
cannot be accessed without passphrase.
- Makes backing up data easy as only the one PGP container needs to be backed up.
- Programs can be installed to a PGP Disk also. Again, they are only available while
the disk is mounted.

Disadvantages:

- If you forget your password, you've had it!
- As with all virtual disks it can be corrupted (although in my 3 years of using PGP
disk this has never happened to me but I should warn you nonetheless).
- Containers are only encrypted when they are dismounted. When mounted the data is as
available as any other hard drive data would be (e.g. they will be available over a
network - file and print sharing etc.)

HTH

Extented Mouse Button Functions mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Under Options/Preferences/System, there are Extended mouse button
functions for the mouse buttons 1 and 2. I suppose these are
 for special additional mice buttons?

They are. For example, the IntelliMouse Explorer has two thumb
buttons. When browsing the web, these function as forward and back
buttons.

For those of us with normal mice (left and right buttons and a
wheel), is there a key press, while pressing the left or right
 button, that emulates these actions?

You can move to the next unread message by pressing Ctrl + Alt +
Right.

Using the Hotkeys editor, you can define a hotkey for Move to
Previously Viewed message. It is under the Message List Pop-up
