Take a look at Options/Preferences/Messages/Color Groups. You can now set the background of each color group so that you can see the color of the text behind the background. It takes a little playing to get it right, but is very handy. Setting for highlighting of current email
When you first open an email folder, i=one message, usually the topmost is automatically highlighted (in my case it is highlighted in a pale brown colour). Unfortunately, if there is only one email in a folder, the highlighting is impossible to clear thus anjy colour group highlighting deliberately applied, cannot be seen.
