temp sync

2006-02-20 Thread Michael Wagner
Hi folks,

I am using TB! with an IMAP server and since some versions it is running ok.

There is still one issue left:
I am reading some newsgroups which I want to sort grouped. This only works when
I set the newsgroup folder to full sync but I have turned that off to save
*much* time...

So in short terms:
Is it possible to write a macro which:
- turns sync on (to full sync)
- syncs the wanted folder
- turn sync off (for that folder)

Thanks
Michael

Re[2]: mail retrieval question

2006-02-20 Thread Jean Goddin
Thanks Ian;
There are a large number of messages but I want them all. My hard
drive crashed and it was several days before I could get a new one
installed so my mail was just collecting. When I put TheBat back to
Collect mail every half hour it seemed to download the same ones
over and over because it never sent the final whatever it needs for
the server to not send them again. It is really boring to sit and
babysit an email program for hours just to clear your mail box. :)

I was hopeful that as versitile as TheBat is that there would be a way
to automate this. That way I could just set it up before I go to work
and it would be done the next time I had a chance to work with my
machine.

I don't know if that can be done, but if you are having problems
simply because you have a large number of messages in your inbox, you
could use the dispatcher and uncheck the messages you want to bring in
on the next check. Just remember to uncheck the delete check box as
well otherwise the messages will not be downloaded but deleted as
 well.

Set your account to leave messages on server. Mails that have
already been downloaded already will now not be downloaded again. Once
you have all mails, delete all with the Despatcher.

You can also set TB to delete messages on server after two days. TB
counts the days from successful retrieval, not from receipt on the
server. This way, you don't need to worry about deleting them later.

One remark: This is an old bug which was fixed some time ago. Even
when the account is set to delete messages from server, TB should
not re-download already retrieved messages. Seems like this bug has
resurfaced. I cannot verify it any more, because my internet
connection is unfortunately (?) stable.

No, what he's getting at, I think, is that some message is causing a
problem and TB never sends the end session so that the server can
delete the downloaded messages. Therefore, it just keeps downloading
the same ones over and over.

If this is the case, I would look at the log to see if it's failing on
the same message. If so, go into Message Dispatcher and delete it
directly from the server and then try to download your mail as normal
again.

However, if you've set your options to check mail every 30 minutes and
it's actually taking longer than 30 minutes to pull down the messages,
I'm not sure what would happen when the mailcheck kicks in again while
it's still downloading from the first session. At this point, I would
do what Dwight mentioned.

Please include a signature delimiter in your messages. This consists
of a dashdashspacereturn, i.e., a '-- ' by itself on a line.
This allows your readers, when replying, to quote your text without
the signature and list footers since everything below and including
the sig delimiter is excluded when quoting.

You can easily automate this process by including the sig delimiter in
your templates.

Even if you barely have a signature to speak of, that doesn't make any
difference to whether or not you need a cut mark. You are being
courteous to other readers since at least three lines of text is added
to your signature by the list server.

... and, no, we can't add the cut mark to the list footer on the
server because when there are 2 cut marks in a message, only the last
is used. So that would penalize those that *do* correctly use a cut
mark

The new mailcheck won't kick in. I know, because some people send me
mails several MBs big (funny pps forwards), and that takes more than
the assigned 10 minutes, sometimes over an hour. I have asked them to
decease - err, I mean cease and desist.

Good to know. I wondered if it'd hang. Reason being that once upon a
time a bit back, I had mine set to every minute (Comcast) and it would
hang on downloads (the Connection Center). I moved it up to five
minutes and it hasn't since.

This posting violated the list rules regarding top posting.

Top posting, i.e., typing all your reply text at the top of your
message and following it with all quoted text below, is not
encouraged and we actually request that you not do so on this list
because

a) It makes it difficult to glean context from what you typed at the
   top of the message

and

b) It encourages excessive quoting.

We would much prefer if you quote just that much of the message to
which you're replying, so we know what it is you're referring to,
and then below the quotation, type your response. If you're
responding to more than one part of the original, then quote each
part separately and follow each part with your response.

Now, I know that you may not personally prefer this format and that
you may disagree with some of the reasoning here. We very much
respect this. However, this is the format that most of the active
members here prefer and all members are expected, and are being
asked to use the format that will make most of the active membership
here comfortable reading. You'll likely get a more responsive group
when you post using a style that is comfortable for them to read and
understand.

To find out why these MOD messages are posted to the list instead of

Thank you.
