Re: Can't send e-mail: error message of Server says no such user

2011-01-13 Thread Amy J. Schneider
Message has not been sent. Server reply:
 u...@example.com No such user here.

M In this example, is u...@example.com the address you are sending
M the message to or from?

Sorry, I see that I missed this question. This is the address that I
am sending TO. It is always a valid address, and when I send via my
webmail, it goes through just fine, I get a reply from the person,
etc.

Perhaps I am misunderstanding, but this is not the
 ISP's e-mail.

OK...

The e-mail I am trying to send in via
my permanent e-mail account on my own domain,
featherschneider.com, which I own. The server is
operated my my web hosting company, not my ISP. And my
webmail (again, via my hosting company, not the ISP)
 works just fine.

I truly don't understand how the cellular company could
 affect my e-mail account.

Your outgoing mail travels over your ISPs network when it leaves your
computer before it reaches your hosting company's servers. Some ISPs
block outgoing email that isn't relayed via their own servers. I
couldn't tell you what error message you would encounter, or if it
would just be failure to connect to the server - I have never had an
ISP that did that. Check with your hosting company if anything is
wrong their end, or if you need to adjust any settings following the
ISP change.

Is the error message from your web hosting company's server every

As it turns out, the question is all moot. I'm going to be switching to a
new, better provider tomorrow, and I've also begun migrating to Thunderbird
(and did get some help with connecting that from my host). Not just because
of this glitch -- I had other concerns and broken stuff in The Bat and
this just kind of tipped me into finally switching to TB. Sorry, but it's
just not intuitive for me, and I'm usually pretty comfortable with
adjusting software settings. Just couldn't afford the time to tinker and
troubleshoot anymore.

Thanks for all of your help and info, I really do appreciate it. Best
wishes to everyone.

TB, IMAP and smartphones

2011-01-13 Thread Sacks, Avram
Hi, all.

I and my wife may soon be migrating to smartphones. However, how
does one synchronize e-mail between two computers and two smartphones?
Is this purpose served through use of IMAP? If so, isn't that a
problem? I have tried to get IMAP to work with The Bat, but haven't
been very successful.

FWIW, we have a private domain with three separate e-mail accounts, one
of which filters some of the mail into three subfolders. We also have
five Gmail accounts, each of which have a number of subfolders. POP is
used for all of these accounts.

Any suggestions?
