Slimming Down the database / Archiving

2022-06-24 Thread Tom
Hello Everyone,

my TB has grown over the years and the backup files are now more than
 gb in size.
I would like to tidy up a bit without messing up everything.

My idea is to create new Archive folders and then moving older emails into
these archive folders.
Can I then remove these completely to a different harddrive/backup storage in
case I ever need them again?
Currently my mail directory is at on my OS drive at %APPDATA%\The Bat!\

As you can see in my signature below, I am using V9. But I think it is
just the same in v10.

Display "old style" lines in tree views.

Preferences → Other options → Display old-style lines in treeviews

As my sig hopefully shows I got v10.0.10 working. The only issue is it saw
duplicates (which really existed) in my address book, but the Bat! splash
screen hid the overwrite confirmation box and I had to keep using Task Manager
to get rid of the main splash screen to enable each confirmation. I deleted all
the duplicates in the end, and it has calmed down now :)

Only disappointment so far is that in my preferred threaded view mode the
interconnecting lines between messages have gone and are replaced by arrows and
unmarked indents. I do not suppose there's a way of getting the thread lines
back is there?

I have the message bases on my D: drive at D:\TB_Mail, and the basic TB! files
at C:\TheBat I installed V10 in the same C:\TheBat directory as the old one,
can I, once happy with V10, just delete the older files in there?

Thanks again.

Auto-updating version will update itself automatically in the background
(similar to how most browsers update), while the regular version requires you
to update it manually whenever a new release is made.

Make a backup first (in case you decide to return to older version), but other
than that, the new version should import the old messages and filters
automatically.

Silly me, the 30 day trial offer is prominent on the Ritlabs home page, my
apologies. But what's the difference between the auto updating versions and the
none auto updating ones please?

Is there much to importing a very large message and attachment base from this
v5.8.10 version to the current one along with my filters, address book and
Sorting Office settings?

Thanks.

I can't decide if I should abandon GMAIL or update my legacy TB! version to the
current one. I am getting a bit old to learn a new interface, and it were not
for GMAIL playing silly beggars I'd be quite content with this v5.8.10

Can I download v10* and try it first? Thanks.

You might be able to generate an app-specific password in gmail web interface
to use with The Bat.
