Re: Can't send e-mail: error message of Server says no such user
Message has not been sent. Server reply: u...@example.com No such user here. M In this example, is u...@example.com the address you are sending M the message to or from? Sorry, I see that I missed this question. This is the address that I am sending TO. It is always a valid address, and when I send via my webmail, it goes through just fine, I get a reply from the person, etc. -- Amy Schneider v4.2.42 on Windows XP 5.1 Build 2600 Service Pack 3 Current version is 4.2.23 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
Re: Can't send e-mail: error message of Server says no such user
As it turns out, the question is all moot. I'm going to be switching to a new, better provider tomorrow, and I've also begun migrating to Thunderbird (and did get some help with connecting that from my host). Not just because of this glitch -- I had other concerns and broken stuff in The Bat and this just kind of tipped me into finally switching to TB. Sorry, but it's just not intuitive for me, and I'm usually pretty comfortable with adjusting software settings. Just couldn't afford the time to tinker and troubleshoot anymore. Thanks for all of your help and info, I really do appreciate it. Best wishes to everyone. AJS Current version is 4.2.23 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
Can't send e-mail: error message of Server says no such user
Greetings -- Suddenly The Bat won't allow me to send e-mail. No matter what (valid) address I select from my address book, when I try to send I get this error: Message has not been sent. Server reply: u...@example.com No such user here. I just downloaded the most recent version and no problem. Any advice? (I hope I've formatted this message correctly. Last time I asked for help I got thumped for not formatting the message just so. Thus I have been reluctant to ask for help. But this new glitch makes the program all but unusable. I have been thinking about switching to Thunderbird.) -- Amy Schneider Using The Bat! v4.2.42 on Windows XP 5.1 Build 2600 Service Pack 3) Current version is 4.2.23 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Suddenly The Bat won't allow me to send e-mail. No matter what (valid) address I select from my address book, when I try to send I get this error: Message has not been sent. Server reply: u...@example.com No such user here. I just downloaded the most recent version and no problem. Any advice? did You changed anything in authentication setting in account? or did not changed something your SMTP server provider? did You asked administrator of server to help You with this? I had same problem with Outlook in past too, so I do not expect, this is related directly to The Bat!, but to configuration on client or server. The only change that has occurred is this (And I just realized that the first problem message came after this happened): My broadband cellular Internet provider changed hands Saturday morning at midnight, and at that point about 80,000 cell phone/Internet customers lost service. My data stick stopped working, and I got a loaner on Sunday afternoon. A tech did come here to set it up, but to the best of my knowledge he did not mess with my e-mail settings; I was present while he worked, and he never asked me for e-mail settings. (I own my own domain, featherschneider.com.) Customer service is still not available (hence 80,000 unhappy customers), so I can't go there for help. I have, however, gotten out of my contract and will keep this loaner card on the old network until I can sign up with a new provider on Friday. Perhaps I should wait until that conversion is complete and see if the problem remains. However, the webmail on my domain works just fine. And The Bat receives mail normally. -- Amy Schneider Using The Bat! v4.2.42 on Windows XP 5.1 Build 2600 Service Pack 3) Current version is 4.2.23 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html Current version is 4.2.23 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
re: Re[2]: Can't send e-mail: error message of Server says no such user
maybe they could change setting of server, try to open account properties, section Transport, hit Authentication of SMTP server button and change setting there, if it helps. Not sure which one you mean. I tried checking/unchecking both checkboxes, top and bottom, all permutations. Tried Use specific settings and entered my exact same e-mail password. Didn't try Require secure authentication, but if regular authentication isn't working, I don't see how this could help. Still getting the same error. -- Amy Schneider Using The Bat! v4.2.42 on Windows XP 5.1 Build 2600 Service Pack 3) Current version is 4.2.23 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
Re: Can't send e-mail: error message of Server says no such user
Maybe the new owner of the ISP has a different policy about relaying email, or about what settings are required (port numbers, authentication, etc.) - is there any help with email settings on their customer website? Perhaps I am misunderstanding, but this is not the ISP's e-mail. As far as I know, I have never even had an e-mail address with them. This is a cellular broadband service provider. My Internet is provided via a USB data stick. The e-mail I am trying to send in via my permanent e-mail account on my own domain, featherschneider.com, which I own. The server is operated my my web hosting company, not my ISP. And my webmail (again, via my hosting company, not the ISP) works just fine. I truly don't understand how the cellular company could affect my e-mail account. If you could explain it in for dummies language, that would be great. In any case, there is no support at this time. Their Web site has only a support form and they are not answering calls or e-mails or returning messages. Thousands of people have nonworking phones and/or no Internet access. It's a huge mess. You can see for yourself by Googling Element Mobile or visiting their web site. They have no clue what's going on. -- Amy Schneider Using The Bat! v4.2.42 on Windows XP 5.1 Build 2600 Service Pack 3) Current version is 4.2.23 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
New to The Bat!: Questions I can't find answers to
Greetings, all -- Longtime Eudora user here who had Eudora crash on her one too many times and finally decided to take the leap to a new client that's still being supported. I've spent some time playing with settings and got a lot of my issues tamed. But I still have a few outstanding. Can you help, or point me to where to look? (using The Bat! v.4.2.12.4 on Win XP SP 3) (1) Is there any way to replicate the Eudora method of having double-clicked messages open in the same pane as the message list (that is, not a separate window)? I don't like using the preview pane because of spam avoidance (both HTML bugs and just having to see the stupid things at all), but those extra taskbar buttons for each message really take up a lot of space. (2) Speaking of spam . . . am I really stuck with having to purchase an extra plug-in in order to get the same junk filtering that Eudora provided as part of the package? (Or are there freebies that I'm not seeing?) (3) I'm also strongly used to keeping messages in ascending order, and Eudora would always open a message list with the last (newest) message visible at the bottom. The Bat! is making me scroll down every time, and I can't figure out how to change this. Am I doomed to force myself to get used to using descending order (which I hate as much as top posting)? I think that's all for now. Thanks much for any light you can shed. Regards, Amy J.
