Using Thawte Certificates

2004-09-14 Thread Barry Wilkinson
Can anyone tell me how to use/import a Thawte Personal Freemail certificate into The
Bat! for use
with s/mime?

The Thawte site only shows certs for IE, OE... not The Bat!

Am I missing something?

If I recall correctly, I imported the X.509 certificate into my browser
(Opera) by opening the link provided by Thawte with the issuing e-mail.
Next step is to export this as a file to somewhere handy so you can get
it into TB! For Opera, go into Tools - Preferences - Security -
Manage certificates and click on Export.

I had tried this but when I tried to export the certificate, IE would not let me
export the private
key. I created a new certificate and that exported OK. Not sure what happened here?

Now, open TB! and open Account... - Properties - Edit personal
Certificates and import the file you've just saved. Is this is
successful you will see the certificate. Now click Generate and type in
the passphrase used when requesting the certificate.

I cannot find any reference to 'Edit personal certificates' in that path?

Many thanks for your replies.

Problem solved. It must be an Operating System difference. After I exported the cert,
right clicking
enable me to 'store' the cert. After that The Bat! could see it.

Many thanks.

However, now with V3 TB wants to save the message to disk as plain

irrespective of whether I have 'always use secure viewer when decrypting' checked or

Seems to be OK here(excepting my previous email to the list).

It pop's up the pgp signing box, the displays the decrypted message on a new tab.
Viewing another
email removes this tab.

This is using an OpenPGP message not s/mime.

pgp problem

2004-09-12 Thread Barry Wilkinson
I have a problem with pgp signature verification in Ver: 2.12 that I had hoped The
Bat! Ver: 3 would cure - unfortunately not.

If I try to verify a senders key which is not in my key list. It appears that the bat
uses DCOM to search a
keyserver. A pop-up appears which does not resolve the key (any key). Upon cancelling
the pop-up, an
error is generated that closes the bat. After this, unless I re-boot, trying to run
the bat again
just causes an error which closes it.

Anybody else have this problem?

What does it say on your copy?

Mine says 'Email scanner is fully functional'

At least the plugin was installed, because I got a new version.

I did not download anything other than the upgraded AVG 7 and
installed it over the old version.

In my AVG Control Center/email scanner/properties the plug-ins tab has
a drop down box with two entries: AVG Plug-in for the Bat and Personal email scanner.
There is a configuration button for both.

I downloaded it, but after installing it and selecting the built-in

Open pgp version support

2003-09-21 Thread Barry Wilkinson
Hello TBUDL members,

I am using pgp version 6.5i and have tried using the built-in support
for pgp without success.

I can encrypt and decrypt messages using the 6.5i plug-in, but using the
built-in support for versions 5, 6, 7, 8 either crashes The Bat! or just ignores the
'send'
command after requesting 'encrypt when completed'.

I realise that I could just carry on using the plug-in, but I would
like to get to the bottom of the problem. Should I upgrade pgp to
version 8?

Any help appreciated.
