Cost, I should imagine. TB is not a high cost product, and the costs
of providing an upgrade procedure based on this, which would probably
require considerable manual checking, would probably wipe out the
profit. As I noted before, although the current upgrade policy may
not be fair to recent purchasers, it does have the benefit of being
cheap to operate, and therefore helps to keep the costs of the product
down.

I have solved all these issues. I now use foxmail. it does not do quite as much in
some areas but more in areas that I need and want. Besides most my email is done from
linux and since the bat is not on linux I have found other solutions. Problem solved.

I have to admit I am an actual paying user of the bat and at one time it was far ahead
of the competition. Now it still has a few features that by and large are nice but not
of use toe the everyday user. The only area it may still have an edge is in security
but still at best it is only as secure as my linux solution and still cant do multiple
accounts and many other features I have in every other email client I use.

Thanks for the excellent email client for it's time.

I often wonder why, when people stop using a particular program, they hang
around with support groups for the programs they don't use. I guess they
have a lot of spare time on their hands. I don't much care what anyone else
uses; you've picked the program you feel works best for you. Fine. I've
picked the one that I feels works best for me. You're right. I'm right.

Easy as that.

Naw I still like the bat I just had higher hopoes for it. The reason I was still
around is bacuse till a few days ago I was still using the bat some times under
windows. Then I noticed all the trafic and everybody arguing about having to pay for
an upgrade and it all just struck me as funny. I never said I dont use it anymore

I use both Foxmail and the BAT! Both have their strengths and weaknesses.
Comprehensive HTML function and a great Bayesian spam filter are available with
Foxmail 5.0 beta 1 and customizable macro templates are better with the BAT!
yes this was why Iooked around also. I get about 600 emails a day 200 of which are

But, why don't you use your spell checker?

Ok the last time I asked if it could be done. It can so how many would like to
see it on linux?

Also How many would pay for it on linux?

On linux there is good competition in kmail but the secure version of the bat
especially does not have any.

Have you ever messed with vmware? (www.vmware.com) You *do* have to pay
for it which goes against the whole open source philosophy, but it does
a hell of a job running windows/win apps on your linux desktop. Plus
 it's just cool. :]
Before we go any further I've been using linux for at least 4 or 5 years. I
know about vmware, wine, and win4lin. I've had the bat working under wine
before but it's kind of slow and the interface doesn't update properly.
Besides wine freaks me out. I feel like my email will go poof in some freak
accident. Vmware is another story. I will probably never use it. It's not in
my opinion worth what you pay for it. Win4lin looks ok but I have never got
around to trying it.

Ok so these solution have strong and weak points each. Now the reason I asked
is that out of all the software I have actually purchased for my own use and
there is not much really I would like to see the bat run properly on linux. I
have only purchased thebat, ontrack system suite, corel office and windows
itself. That must say something about the bat. Anyway it would be nice to
have it running on linux.

Thanks for the replies they do not exactly answer the question I asked. I want
to know about a native linux binary called the bat running under linux and
weather or not they have even considered such a thing.

Thank you all for your replies. I hope I have explained a little better now.

The Bat! branch. Then just double-click on the REG file in WinXP.

Yes silly me I've been using linux for so long to do email that I dropped of
the bat mailing list a long time ago. I just recently decided to try and get
it set up again as if I do any emailing from windows at all it will be using
the bat. Thanks for the advice bellow.

 This is what I wrote:

 a) Backup your current installation and then do an upgrade of your
current installation to the current one. Only if it's working well
should you proceed with the rest of the steps. Otherwise, restore your
old installation, and we can discuss how to transfer it to your new
 system.

If you've successfully upgraded you can do the following:

 a) Go to the Tools menu and select 'Backup'. Tick all the items there,
select 'Standard' backup and hit the 'browse' to indicate where you wish
the backup file to be placed and the name you wish to give it. Now run
 the backup.

 b) On the new machine, install TB! v1.60c. You may be asked if you wish
to restore a from a backup during this installation (new feature that I
haven't personally seen in action). If so, then give it the backup file
to work with and you're done.

If not, not to worry. Do what I had to do. :-) Just continue with the
installation, create an account as instructed (and which you'll delete
after restoring your installation). When you're finished with that part
go to the tools menu and select 'restore'. Add your backup file and tick
all the items at the bottom and go.
