Hello

Can TB! accommodate in-line images within an e-mail? If so, how can
this be done? Thanks for any advice.

Restoring Folder Messages

2009-10-05 Thread Chew Yoke Lim
Hello

To check out an old hard disk, I connected it to my computer.

I found an old version of The Bat! in there and wondered what messages
I might have in that old hard disk.

So I opened that version of The Bat! thinking that it would show up
the old messages. Wrong move! It only showed up the messages that
are now what I have.

That not being what I wanted to know, I closed the program. A warning
message, which seemed to be like a slap on the hand, admonished me
that I should *never* open the old program again. Ouch.

OK. Point taken.

But when I opened up the current version of the program, certain
folders, including the one I had for OpenOffice, which had nearly
1,300 messages, were empty - not all folders, but about a third of all
of them.

No problem. I just restored the folders by using the Tools/Restore
function using the autobackup file (which backup I had elected to do
daily), and by opting for folder selection.

Everything went well, all empty folders were restored - except for the
OpenOffice folder. It said that there was an error reading the backup
file.

This is where I call upon the collective intelligence of the List: Is
there a way of 're-indexing' that folder, i.e. making that part of the
backup for the OpenOffice folder readable again?

Waiting anxiously with fingers crossed - only of the left hand; the
right is for manipulating the mouse :-0.

I'm afraid I am not getting any response from the List. If my reading

have just appeared on the List.

I was wrong in my response to Webgenie. I did get a response from
you: both this and an earlier one saying that you did get my post in
the List - both from your Gmail address.

And I don't think it is because of my Gmail mailbox being full. My
account at Gmail reports that I am using only 21% of the capacity.
Besides, I AM receiving mail from other Lists, inclusive of and
particularly the Open Office Users List, which has very high traffic.

I just noticed that the e-mail from you and Webgenie are addressed to
me at tb...@thebat.dutaint.com. Does this mean that the e-mail I
received from you and Webgenie came from the List? If so, why am I
not receiving other posts?

Curiouser and curiouser ;-).

Stay and enjoy. BTW in which country are you located? Your name sounds
Chinese to me, but doesn't say anything about where you live.

Well, this is off-topic for this List, but as everybody - well, almost
everybody ;-) - is hibernating, and the List appears to be in the
doldrums, perhaps this can be considered as chewing the fat. After
all, man cannot live by The Bat! (discussion) alone :-).

I am indeed of Chinese descent, but I live in Malaysia, born and bred
here, but still considered an immigrant by the much earlier
immigrants, who now claim to own this country. The the vast majority
of the earlier immigrants were from Sumatra (now part of Indonesia).
Other early but later immigrants in substantial numbers were Muslims
from India, and the Arabian peninsula (it wasn't called the Middle East
then; it was called the Near East - from the point of view of the head
office ;-) of the British Empire). Those from Sumatra were not
Muslims originally but were converted by the later early immigrants.

Anyway, you don't want me to get started on the politics here -
neither a topic for this List nor a healthy pursuit for me.

By the way, if I don't occasionally post for an extended period of

I have not used BCCs in The Bat!, so I don't know if by doing so,

Figure Showing No. of E-mail Messages in Parentheses

2009-04-01 Thread Chew Yoke Lim
Hello TBUDL

I have a number of messages in the Inbox.

When I opened The Bat! program today, I found that the figure showing
the number of messages in the Inbox was in parentheses, like so, Inbox
(345), under the Total column. And, the message description could not
be seen in the right pane. This was not the case previously. It was
like Inbox 345. The descriptions were there and when selected, the
message body would be seen below.

I could not find anything in the program Help files that was helpful.

How can I get the messages back on the right pane, and remove the
parentheses around the figure showing the number of messages?

Thanks for any advice.

Figure Showing No. of E-mail Messages in Parentheses

2009-04-01 Thread Chew Yoke Lim
Hello TBUDL

I had just sent a query to the List under the same subject heading.

After sending it, I was trying to figure out again what the problem
might be.

I then realised that the figure in parentheses is actually the total
number of messages I have in the folders I had created. This means
that I had lost all the messages I had in my Inbox that I had not
moved to the folders.

Now my question, and an exasperated one (or two): How did all those
e-mail messages get lost? Why did they disappear?

My other questions, now that it appears that I have lost all those
messages. Should I re-install the program? Will the messages in the
folders and the new ones in the Inbox disappear if I did that?

I had the program back up everything (I think). How do I restore the
backup?
