New Install Crashes

2004-07-22 Thread Ian Gore
Hi

I've just copied my old TheBat! v1.?? files to a new PC (the old one's toast!). I get
as far as specifying the network config and the program crashes - no error messages,
it just isn't there anymore. When I try and run it again, it crashes immediately.
Since the files could have been corrupt, I downloaded v1.62 off the web site and
installed it in a new folder - same result. I did the same with V2 and got almost
identical results, the only difference was that this time it offered to tell Microsoft
about it!

Everything else is working OK - any ideas?

Re: New Install Crashes

2004-07-22 Thread Ian Gore
Hi Gerard
Is there any error code?
No - nothing at all, but it might be worth me checking the system log now that I think
about it. That'll have to wait 'til I get home.

When you say I get as far as specifying the network config.. does that
mean you only get to enter de config data or are you trying to contact to
your mail server.

It's the first startup screen, where you specify whether TheBat's configured as a
workstation etc. I don't get as far as specifying account details.

I should have mentioned that the OS is XP Pro - I'm not sure which SP.

Yes, it is. But the next folder with unread mail is not necessarily

I'm not sure how Fast Search helps, but it looks for any occurrence of

Are they needed by the SMTP server? If you can enter them, then

Sorry folks, I didn't notice that TB! had decided that my e-mail
address is this list rather than my "real" address. But since I'm
here, has anyone noticed a problem with deleting threads using ctrl
shift del? I'm in the process of testing it (hence the garbage mails)
but I don't think the deleted messages are going in the trash folder.

Wrong again! They are going in the trash folder, but they're not
flagged as unread. Is this an option? A bug? A feature?

Adding misspelled strings to the dictionary just means you could

That's why I put "misspelled" in quotes; I was referring to strings
such as (in this case) foreign words that the spell checker is going
to flag, but which are nonetheless valid in the context of the
message.

TB! is smart enough to remove properly formed sigs so the
 recognition is there.

What constitutes a "properly formed sig"? The spell checker doesn't
take any notice of the "-- " delimiter.

I use English signatures and cookies with my regular (German) mail,
but I use the German dictionary, of course. Now I don't want to add
all the cookies to this dictionary - this wouldn't make any sense.

Ah! Point taken! The editor "TextPad" has a feature that allows you to
use .tlx and .clx files to create multilingual spell checkers. Maybe
that would be another option?

Not in my experience, but you have to select the option to show all
mails rather just new ones.

So this raises the question of how I delete messages left on the
 server.

Show all messages and then select the ones to be deleted.
