Re: Filtering -- OR condition
Hello net5zero, On Monday, October 09, 2000 at 00:26:21 GMT -0400 (which was 9:26 PM where I live) witnesses say [EMAIL PROTECTED] typed: Rhythm Break Productions [EMAIL PROTECTED]|[EMAIL PROTECTED] is the string. Location: sender. Presence: yes. This works. However, when I put the second part of the string on the alternative tab, Sender, Yes; it doesn't work. Try removing the brackets from the string in the alternate tab. So it should look like Main Rule String: Rhythm Break Productions [EMAIL PROTECTED] Location: Sender Presence: Yes Alternate String: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Location: Sender Presence: Yes I'm not sure why, but brackets tend to cause more problems than they are worth. -- Thanks for writing, Januk Aggarwal See header for e-mail address Using The Bat! 1.47 Beta/7 under Windows 98 4.10 Build A -- -- View the TBUDL archive at http://tbudl.thebat.dutaint.com To send a message to the list moderation team double click here: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] To Unsubscribe from TBUDL, double click here and send the message: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] -- You are subscribed as : archive@jab.org

On Sunday, October 08, 2000 at 14:35:51 GMT -0700 (which was 2:35 PM where I live) witnesses say Januk Aggarwal typed: Not(A or B) = Not(A) and Not(B) On the other hand: Not(A) or Not(B) = Not( A and B) Check the truth tables for these operations to see the difference. If you need help doing that, let me know and I'll try to show it to you. Ok, I'm replying to myself, but I think this is worth the effort. So in the example above, the letters 'A' and 'B' are expressions which can be true or false. In TB the specific expression is: Is the string in the specified location? So if we use | = Or = and ! = Not ABA|B !(A|B)AB!(AB)!A!B !A|!B!A!B Yes Yes Yes NoYes No NoNo No No Yes No Yes NoNo Yes NoYes Yes No No Yes Yes NoNo Yes Yes No Yes No No No No Yes No Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes -- Thanks for writing, Januk Aggarwal See header for e-mail address Using The Bat!

When I put it on the Rule tab with "|", it works. There is no typo because I use copy and paste. I don't think it's your filters that are wrong, just your logical expansion. What you're trying to do is: Not(A or B) = Not(A) and Not(B) What makes you think net5zero is using "Not" in any way. he said he linked two conditions with "OR", not "AND". He didn't say he's using the "NOT" operator. Or am I missing something? net5zero, you might want to be more specific for others to be able to help you. How exactly did you set up your filter, preferably in the format commonly used here (which is the same as it appears in the Sorting Office): String Location Presence xxx yyy Yes/No -- Best regards, Ming-Li The Bat! 1.47 Beta/7 | Win2k SP1 -- -- View the TBUDL archive at http://tbudl.thebat.dutaint.com To send a message to the list moderation team double click here: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] To Unsubscribe from TBUDL, double click here and send the message: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] -- You are subscribed as : archive@jab.org
