It's based on received time.

Hi Susanne.

At 7:30 PM on Thursday, August 01, 2002 you [S] wrote the
following about [Keep messages in the base for (days)]:

S I tried to set a few of my folders to only keep messages for
S a couple of days (folder -Properties -General), but the
S messages don't get automatically deleted when they should
S be. [...]

I think TB! adds one day [sort of]. So if you select 2
days, it deletes compresses on day 3 [as 2 days have
passed] when you start up TB!. If TB! is left on
overnight, I don't believe TB! takes any action. Does any
  of that help?

Also I seem to remember that ME had issues with lots of
things normally at times didn't work right if snooze or
  sleep was on.

You're not going to like this statement but, were I you,
I'd dump ME as fast as I could afford to do so. It was
nothing but trouble @ lots of levels IMO.

  HTH

You need to set your time limit one less than the actual number of
days you wish to keep the messages for. If you wish to keep the
messages for 2 days, put 1 day in the configuration dialog.

What I'm uncertain about is whether or not messages are selected for
deletion based on age is done based on received dates and times
rather than creation dates and times.

S Also under General Folder Properties I selected to remove
S old messages and compress on exit.

S Is there anything else I have to do to activate this?

No there isn't.

Hi Allie,

Historians believe that Thursday, August 1, 2002 at 18:45 GMT -0500
was when, Allie Martin typed the following:

deletion based on age is done based on received dates and times
rather than creation dates and times.

It looks like it is based on when it was received *by the folder*.
