ACM Why not create an shortcut in the programs/startup menu? Is there no
ACM CLI parameter to 'start' it up? If not, you could install PowerPro on
ACM your friends server and then use a macro that is executed on the
ACM machines startup. It would fire up the batpost and then 'start' it. :)
I must admit my ignorance for Windows NT. I'm learning as I go,
but so far there appears to be no way to add the program as a
service so it starts with the system. The server is set up so
there are 'desktops' for various users, with each of us remoting
in via a Terminal Services Client. Some programs install
themselves as services, such as Argo's mail server, but neither I
nor my friend can find a way to do it manually. Even if we could
find an area to autorun the program (each desktop has it's own
Startup folder that executes with the individual's log-in) when
the system starts, the program also needs to be started after
it's already been activated. In other words, when you run it, it's
sits idle until told to begin monitoring for mail. I do find it
ironic, in an almost humorous way, that the traditional hard part
was overcome easily (setup config), and the program functions
well, but the normally easy thing (getting the darned thing to
start by itself) is the problem area. I'll laugh later... :)
One other interesting point. I installed another mail server
(Argo, as mentioned) as the primary, and am using BatPost as my
private smtp engine to get around a port 25 block, so having BP
start with my desktop (so no one else could see it) would be fine
with me. However, we also haven't found a way to get a desktop to
autostart with the system. They only seem to be able to start when
someone logs in. And even *then* I'm still facing the program's
secondary activation, which it apparently needs to have done
manually. I could, of course, locate another server program, but I
really do like several factors of BP. First, it's by Ritlabs,
secondly it's really small, but fully-functional, and finally, I
can turn off pop scanning and use it strictly as an smtp engine.
Ideal for my purposes. I'm gonna tough this one out if it kills
me! :)
