JA I thought it was Windows 9x/ME... didn't realise they were dropping support for
JA 2K as well... An unusual move seeing as they have not really been pushing WinXP
JA as a server product yet (not that I'd noticed anyway)

The lifecycles and support options are at

number of W2K questions and answers at the foot of the page relating
to business use.

JA like the ability to hide icons in your system tray (a great feature

It is, but before I had XP I used a wonderful little programme
from Mike Lin: http://www.mlin.net/ His tray saver is great!

(I still use his Clipomatic)

For home use though I would probably stick with XP over 2000; if I was

NA Can you not take XP Pro and design it such that all the fancy/cartoony

NA holes are patched, etc? I understand that MS will not be supporting Win 2K
NA for very much longer, so I'm curious if XP Pro can be just as secure and
NA stable as Win 2K if you know what you are doing.

Probably; in my case another problem could be that I'm still using Office

Re[2]: OT: Win98 or Win XP / F2 = SEND

2002-07-14 Thread Chanchao

DARN, I thought I turned that F2 = SEND key off... !!! This happened to me
a lot that I would accidentally hit the F2 key and the message would be
send and gone in an instant before I finished it...

I thought I turned this off but perhaps the setting is per account or
something? What's the best way to make this just go away?

As a recommendation I would suggest to switch the default function for F2
and Alt-F2 Accidentally checking mail by accident is no biggie, but
accidentally sending an e-mail could be VERY serious. Of course it's less
likely to accidentally hit a key combination (Alt/Ctrl-Function-key) than
just the function key.

Anyway, as I was saying:

NA Can you not take XP Pro and design it such that all the fancy/cartoony
NA stuff is gone set up your Networks such that most of the security
NA holes are patched, etc? I understand that MS will not be supporting Win 2K
NA for very much longer, so I'm curious if XP Pro can be just as secure and
NA stable as Win 2K if you know what you are doing.

Probably; in my case another problem could be that I still have to use
Office 2000 for which I have a license, instead of Office XP. I also think
MS should support Win 2K for a LOT longer. Big companies just don't change
the OS software of thousands of PC's every two years.

Cheers,
Chanchao
