I have mine set for 4 sec. Often I receive large volumes of messages And many 
of them have a vague subject or misrepresented true sender. For decades I have 
found setting this at 4 sec gives me enough time to examine enough of the 
message body to determine whether or not a message should be marked as read. 
This practice also helps to prevent premature deletion....
