Whether you use a spam filter or not, it is handy to do 2 things:

1. Use positive filters in TB to move desired mail to separate
folders. Also add a filter to move "Known" mail to a "Welcome" folder
or similar name.

2. This leaves any unfiltered junk in the "Inbox", where you click on
the Subject heading to sort alphabetically by subject. ( You do this
only once to set it.) This makes it very quick and easy to glance
through the list in case anything of value is there. The repeat
subjects are together and need only be read once.
