Signature.asc attachment file

Can I ask please, why is it that Jakob's PGP signature comes as an
attachment file (signature.asc)- rather than inline as do Marck's,
Allie's etc?  I've not seen these .asc files before so would be
interested to know more about them.  Thanks!

X-Mailer: Ximian Evolution 1.2.0

His mail client uses S/MIME and PGP signs the message, and attaches
the signature file to the email.  As far as I remember, TB doesn't do
this... at least not yet
