Synchronize with Windows contacts

2019-10-16 Thread Andrew Savchenko
Windows 10 has default contacts location set to ~/Contacts

Has anyone came across a way to synchronize Bat's contacts with the
said folder?

The steps you list sound correct. There are a couple of things you
could check:

- Are all the accounts you want to synchronize selected? It sounds
obvious, but I missed an account on a few occasions!

- Synchronisation will only work between identical folder structures and
it will not, as far as I know, create folders on the destination
machine if they do not already exist. The same appears to go for
accounts.

- You need to make sure that both machines are using the same files! I
spent a frustrating 1/2 hour on one occasion wondering why my new
messages would not appear on the target machine until I realised that
I had not connected the network cable, so the machine was using an old
synchronisation file!

Hope this helps.

Folder structures are identical.

I made sure, but I still couldn't get tit to work, and ended
up copying the whole folder for the account over to the
desktop, and I guess I will do the same to get my messages
back over to the laptop, once it comes back from repairs.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I do wish I could find out what prevents synchronization
from working, since it would be much easier and faster, if I
could use it.

Synchronize?

2004-04-18 Thread Susanne
Hi,

I need to send in my laptop for repairs and have temporarily
moved my account over to my husband's desktop a few days
ago, in preparation.

The laptop will go tomorrow, and I've been trying to
synchronize the account on the desktop with the more up to
date messages on my laptop, but it doesn't appear to be
working.

(*does* synchronize work between two different versions of
TB and windows? Christmas edition/WinXP on the laptop, and
version 1.53d/Windows98SE on
the desktop. Husband likes the old version, and does not
wish to upgrade!)

None of the new messages from the laptop show up on the
desktop account, even though something appears to be
happening.

I did step one on the desktop, step two on the laptop, and
step three on the desktop (according to instructions I found
when doing an archive search.

Am I missing an important step, or am I going about it all
wrong?

Should I just copy the whole mail folder over to the desktop
once again. which would take a long time? :}

If you really don't use 2 copies of TB! can you simply copy all files

Yes, I do that every night. Actually, I only copy the Mail directory
and I copy it to my laptop. That way, I kill two birds with the same

CT Here are a several suggestions for improvements and questions.

CT 1. First of all, does anyone else use a similar setup?

I don't.

CT If so do you have any suggestions as to how to deal better with
CT it?

Nothing short of jumping hoops. The synchronisation process at present
is done manually. I'd imagine that a batch process could be created to
copy the updated installation on top of the other and do the same for
the registry. :-/

CT 2. Could you add the possibility to synchronize the sorting filters as
CT well? I would rather set them up in one place (wherever I happen to be
CT as I need them) and then just update the other machine through
CT synchronization.

CT 3. Same for templates. Both system, folder and AB.

This is already there. IF you look in the synchronisation panel.
You'll see the options to synchronise AB and account properties.
Templates are stored at various levels so if you synchronise the account
properties, the quick templates will be synchronised. For folder
templates, synchronising the folders will do this. For address book
templates, synchronising the address book will do this.

IOW's, you can completely synchronise the settings etc. I did this
regularly between The Bat! and SecureBat! for some time.

CT 4. Can the synchronization be executed directly using a network
CT connection between the two clients? I realize this would mean
CT adding a whole new functionality and possibility of
CT vulnerabilities to the client, but... it would be nice.

This would be a great addition.

CT 5. Finally, I remember trying to update the AB using the
CT synchronize and it didn't seem to work. I didn't look too much
CT into it at the time, so maybe I was doing something wrong, but I
CT was wondering if it really works and if so if it includes the AB
CT Templates as well.

It always worked for me. shrug

Re[2]: Synchronize features

2001-09-26 Thread Ciprian Tutu

CT 4. Can the synchronization be executed directly using a network
CT connection between the two clients?
A how is it done currently via direct local network? (I've never tried it)

Currently it's not done via local network. It's a 3-step process where
you first create an index of the account you want to update. Then you
bring this file over to the other computer and execute there step two
generating a file that incorporates the differences (actually the
additions only) that the second system has compared to the first one.
Finally you copy this file and apply it as the third step to your
initial system which will be updated.

I was thinking that it would be really cool to have the two clients
talk and execute this transfer without going through all these
steps. As I said, I realize this may introduce a lot of potential
problems and it means adding some capabilities that are not really
natural to a mail client. I will have to check how other systems
provide for synchronizing...

How about the sorting filters. That is not really part of the account
settings nor the folder settings.

Also I generally avoid synchronizing the account properties. The
settings of a home/modem connection are quite different from those on
my laptop which sits on a lan. For instance I check the email every 2
min at work, but only every 5 or 10 at home.
I guess I can live with resetting that manually though. :)

Thanks,

Before I become misunderstood: never meant change immediately :=)
... if both are correct spell checking should not tell me the s one
as wrong :-) that was my only intention. I for myself have already
changed it in the dictionary file, just though for future :-)
But as you said: it's (very) low priority, but could be included
if stefan, max or somebody else with access to the source file is bored
and really wants to change one line *grin*

Yes and no! Some web-based e-mail services allow you to retrieve your
mail with any client-based e-mail program. It appears that the
standard for this is POP - which does not support "folder-retrieval"
(so to speak), but some providers offer retrieval by IMAP as well -
and this *does* support folders. The Bat! can use both of these
standards and is therefore able to import the folders of the
web-account. But it is not able to *export* its own folders to the
web-account and, so, you cannot really speak of "synchronization".

It does and you're welcome :-)

Re: synchronize with IMAP server

Hello Daniel,

I might add that I know only of two webmail-providers that offers
client-based retrieval by IMAP: www.myrealbox.com and
www.eudoramail.com. I don't know any of them *that* well, but on the basis
of my current kmowledge, I'd say they're both great - although
Eudoramail does not appear to offer the option of retrieving mail from
other accounts.

Add Operamail. Works with TB without problems.

It *was* Operamail, I meant! Why I wrote Eudoramail, I really don't
know! As far as I can tell, Eudoramail does *not* support IMAP.

Here are the facts again, Daniel:

The two web-mail providers, that I know of, that offers IMAP-retrieval
are www.myrealbox.com and www.operamail.com . Since Operamail does not offer
the option of retrieving mail from other accounts, and MyRealBox has
got a couple of other goodies (no ads, for one thing), I personally prefer the latter.

Best regards,

Jannik

I have found MyRealBox to be very stable (this account is there
actually). I have been using it from the start (it was originally a
method to test the new NIMS software from Novell). The only outages I
can recall were from upgrades to the software during the Beta phase of
the product. It just recently finished the beta phase. Also, they
are working on the next version, so if you want to make suggestions...

One thing I like very much is you can configure it to go and get mail
from other pop or imap sites (you can get your mail from MyRealBox
with either pop or imap).
