Or export to msg or eml, set your system clock to the date/time when

a dumb problem

2005-01-21 Thread Henry Lefkowitz
Here's a dumb problem which I hope that someone will be able to help
with. For reasons which I won't go into, I temporarily changed my
system date ahead 3 weeks. Dumb me...I forgot to change it back
before I opened TB and downloaded about 20 messages. I usually sort
my folders by received date, and so this really screws up my display
and sorting. Is there any way, either with TB, or with other
software, that I could changed the received date on those 20 messages
(which I have moved into a special folder I created)? Thanks in
advance for your help in solving this problem!

With peace,

Henry

If they are still on your server, close TB and rename the account.m_r
file. That's contains UIDs of the mails TB has already received. TB
will download all mails from the server again, so you will need to
use the Kill Duplicates functionality under the Folder menu in the
main window.

Instead, you can also export the messages, delete the ones in TB, and
import them again. This should fix the received date. Back up/rename
the message.tbb file for safety first. You will need to do a manual
refilter.

20 mails is not many. Is it really a big problem?

It's not really a problem; it's just annoying!

IIRC if you export to Unix Mailbox type and re-import, I believe Thomas is
correct in that the date received is the date of import. So if you didn't
change your computer date back to the correct date before the import the
problem persists.

If you sort them by created date it won't make a big difference usually

I tend to prefer sorting my mail by received date, as my servers
sometimes give me mail that was sent months before (and no, it's not
because I have my date set wrong).

Hi Henry,

The only way I know of is to save the each as separate txt/Unix files and edit
them manually and then import them again.

The UNIX mailbox format includes the received date/time, so if you
export to that format and re-import you will get the same received
date/time unless you edit the UNIX mailbox in the meantime (the received

I stand corrected.

Well my memory tells me this has occurred to me in the past I just
couldn't recall which format I used. I probably should have tested
first.
