Re[2]: how to reply to message in Digest TBUDL?

2003-01-10 Thread Ochrid
I thought the TBUDL list allowed subscription to the mailing list as a
MIME-Digest, meaning each mail comes as an attachement? If you subscribe
in that format, you can open each message, and reply to it individually,
instead of replying to blocks of messages.

I do get the messages as attachments and am replying to your now,
but I had to paste in the quote (F4 does not work in this mode)
and add the TBUDL address manually.

F4 means reply quoting marked text. If you haven't marked any
text, then no text will be quoted.

If your reply template for the folder (if you have one) doesn't
include a %QUOTES (or equivalent) macro, then no text will be
quoted.

F4 should work, provided that the template you're using has the %quotes
macro in it.

I was curious how the tbudl messages in mime digest were arriving, so
I subscribed for a second time to tbudl, but now in mime digest
format.

To be able to use a template for the list, you'll need to filter the
list messages into a separate folder and you'll need a
folder-template. Before I'll get Marck warning me against the evils of
folder templates, I must say that you'll need a fail safe that private
replies won't go list wide. So I made a folder-template that addresses
the reply to the same address as the old message was addressed to.
This message was created by that folder reply template, I manipulated
the address so: %To=%To=%OFromName %OToAddr%-
The beauty of this macro is that you can use it for multiple lists,
since it duplicates the ToAddress from the old message. Might your
filters go berserk and filter personal messages to your list folder,
the reply won't be sent to a public list, but to yourself, since you
were the original recipient. (Nevertheless, this might cause
embarrassing moments when the original message was addressed to
multiple persons, but it's hard to protect against everything.)

This was the full template I used:
==
%To=%To=%OFromName %OToAddr%-
Hallo %OFromFName%language=AM,
%singlere%-

%wrapped='On%SETPATTREGEXP=(?m-s)Date\:\s*?((.*?[\d]{4})\s*?([\d]{0,2}\:[\d]{0,2})\s*?(.*))%REGEXPMATCH=%HEADERSGMT
 (%ODateShort, %OTime +0100GMT, where I live), you wrote:'
%CURSOR%-
%QuoteStyle=I%Quotes%-

--

Hope this helps

Only had the ToAddress of the list in the header. One thing though,
your name has changed, might have something to do with folder settings
or whatever.

Roelof-

Here's what I use as a folder template for TBUDL in digest mode. This
allows a reply just to the list and also allows the reply-all
function to provide both a list reply and a personal one. It *is* the
only folder template I've got and I wouldn't even use this one if the
mailing list software didn't screw up digest mode addressing.

how to reply to message in Digest TBUDL?

2003-01-09 Thread Ochrid

Hello all,

I receive the TBUDL messages in digest format.

Is there a way to reply without having to start a
whole new message, as I do now?

If I try to reply by hitting F4 or Ctrl R, the To: field will
read: So and so on Postmaster

What do I do? Add the list's address?

I never tried digest mode, but from what I remember reading, it is not
possible to reply directly. Someone CMIIW. Anyway I'd recommend not to use
digest mode - threading works perfectly if you have each message, and there
are not _too_ many messages, are there?

The list's name, I suppose. The address would be Postmaster, identified
by these brackets. What are they called in English? Shame on me,I forgot ;)

Btw. I didn't know the F4 shortcut, I always use ctrl + F5, and I find,
that F4 will produce a reply according to my template, but without the
quotes part... Strange beast once again, The Bat!... ;o)
