I come from the BBS world too. Die hard bbs users should learn to
comply with standard Internet netiquette. Not the other way around.

you wrote on: "quotestyles":

It is posible to change that symbole. Make two templates:

1. template: Name: NQ
%REM=_Cut out part before '^-- $'_%-
%REM=_and insert it into comment_%-
%REM=_Call QT_%-
%-
%COMMENT="%-
%SETPATTREGEXP='(?ism)[\n]*(.*?)[\n]*((-- [\n])|\z)'%-
%REGEXPBLINDMATCH='%text'%-
%SUBPATT='1'"%-
%QINCLUDE="nq2"

2. Template name:NQ2
%REM=_Does comment have two or more lines?_%-
%REM=_If yes: print | and the first line_%-
%REM=_ cut that line from comment_%-
%REM=_ and call this QT again_%-
%REM=_If no: print | and the last line and exit_%-
%-
%IF:"%-
%-
%SETPATTREGEXP='(?is).*?[\n](.*)'%-
%REGEXPMATCH='%COMMENT'x"<>"x"%-
:"%-
%SETPATTREGEXP='(?is)(.*?)[\n]'%-
| %REGEXPMATCH='%COMMENT'
%-
%COMMENT='%-
%SETPATTREGEXP=""(?is).*?[\n](.*)""%-
%REGEXPMATCH=_%COMMENT_'%-
%QINCLUDE='nq2'"%-
:%-
"| %COMMENT%COMMENT=''"%-

%QINCLUDE="NQ" instead of %QUOTES in youy email template

In this example the quote sign is "|". If you want another , change it
in NQ2.

Maybe. But that would make it impossible to use certain characters at
the beginning of a line.

Personally, I like the idea of having *one* character as a quote sign as
the de facto standard and *not* making it configurable. There are too
many people out there who would jump on such a feature and make "§"
their default quote sign (or something even more stupid) just to be
different from all the others.

It would be a good idea to make it configurable like Agent does i,
just put in characters that are quote prefixes. Would clearly help
with some mails from die-hard BBS users of olden tyme, who use { or [
or | and what not ...

Fortunately, this is not possible. This would really mess up the
highlighting of quotes.

I think I would send emails with non-standard quote signs straight to
the trash because I wouldn't want to waste my time with searching for
replies between the quoting of my post. Just my $0.02.

You may probably have to indent the %Quotes macro like this:

I did try this with no luck. Also, I apologize for using an unrelated
