  The problem disappeared after a program restart and since I then
  could not recreate the problem I did not put any more effort into

I can confirm that, even after a system restart. However, if I open
Process Explorer, there is only one instance of The Bat! showing.

Richard was talking about the Processes page in the Task Manager.  I
too can see two icons in the Applications page, but I only see one
thebat.exe in the Processes page.

Daniel Richard was talking about the Processes page in the Task Manager.  I
Daniel too can see two icons in the Applications page, but I only see one
Daniel thebat.exe in the Processes page.

I see the same. On the APPLICATION page I see two icons (only for the Bat)
but only one is listed under PROCESSES.

No, I was talking about Process Explorer a programme that is like Task
Manager on steroids! :-)

DR I too can see two icons in the Applications page, but I only see

Had one, perhaps, crashed and the icon not disappeared until you
moused over it?
