I've committed the updates for the German airports but left the
metropolitan area airports alone.

Thanks!

Why are non-developers so obsessed with misc/airports?
It would be way more productive to spend time on other parts of the
source tree.

You are right. I'll give it a try:
Anyone been on one of those?

KCK:Kirensk, Russia
MFW:Magaruque Island, Mozambique
QDV:Comte. Rolim Adolfo Amaro, Jundiai, Brazil
QSF:8 May 1945, Setif, Algeria

If no response I'll submit a revised patch with them removed next

Due to the rule for this file mentioned in the header, I think you'll
need to find a developer who has been to the added airports that have
replaced the metro areas, i.e. KCK MFW QDV QSF, either that or just
remove them.

Thanks, I double checked with wikitravel.org as well. Here is a patch that
also addresses changes to the Metropolitan Area Airport Codes. Some of them
do not appear on wikitravel.org and not on iata.org but they are not reused
either, so I left them as they are (NRW, QLA). For QSF I found its homepage
here:

Its official name is "8 Mai 1945".

I have seen those, and I am a bit confused. If these are supposed to be
IATA codes there are several problems:

KCK:
according to
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kirensk_Airport
and
https://www.iata.org/en/publications/directories/code-search/?airport.search=KCK
this is Kirensk, Russia

MFW:
according to
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_airports_by_IATA_airport_code%3A_M
and
https://www.iata.org/en/publications/directories/code-search/?airport.search=MFW
this is Magaruque Island, Mozambique
although http://www.gcmap.com/airport/MFW says it is closed.

NRW:
according to
https://www.iata.org/en/publications/directories/code-search/?airport.search=NRW
this does not exist. But according to
https://iata.codes/airline/polizeifliegerstaffel-nordrhein-westfalen-nrw-hummel-de
there is 3-letter ICAO (not IATA) code NRW for "Polizeifliegerstaffel
Nordrhein-Westfalen", aka a police helicopter squad.

QDV:
according to
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jundia%C3%AD_Airport
and
https://www.iata.org/en/publications/directories/code-search/?airport.search=QDV
this is Comte. Rolim Adolfo Amaro, Jundiai, Brazil

QSF:
according to
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ain_Arnat_Airport
and
https://www.iata.org/en/publications/directories/code-search/?airport.search=QSF
this is Ain Arnat (also "8 May 1945"), Setif, Algeria

But if those are not IATA codes, then I am probably completely wrong
here.

Correct, see the official airport website:
https://www.hamburg-airport.de/en

Fuhlsbüttel is the name of the district within the city of Hamburg where the
airport is located. As this is the only major public airport in Hamburg,
colloquial usage often equated Fuhlsbüttel with the airport. The other airport
Hamburg-Finkenwerder (XFW) is newer and mainly used for the Airbus production
facilities in Hamburg. Regular flights do not use XFW except possibly in the
case of serious emergencies.

Dusseldorf is extremely common spelling in English (which the

I'm not opposed to changing it though.

Consistency and cleanup in /share/misc/airport

2022-07-25 Thread Thomas Wager
Hi,

some changes to /share/misc/airport to treat german umlauts more
consistently, remove the "Flugplatz" (german for airport, which is kind
of redundant as it is all airports in the list), remove NRW which does
not exist as IATA code, remove THF which is gone since 2010.
