[Test-Announce] Fedora 21 Beta Release Candidate 4 (RC4) Available Now!

2014-10-29 Thread Andre Robatino
NOTE: The last compose was RC2.

As per the Fedora 21 schedule [1], Fedora 21 Beta Release Candidate 4
(RC4) is now available for testing. Content information, including
changes, can be found at
https://fedorahosted.org/rel-eng/ticket/6010#comment:19 . Please see the
following pages for download links (including delta ISOs) and testing
instructions. Normally dl.fedoraproject.org should provide the fastest
download, but download-ib01.fedoraproject.org is available as a mirror
(with an approximately 1 hour lag) in case of trouble. To use it, just
replace "dl" with "download-ib01" in the download URL.

Installation:

Ideally, all Alpha and Beta priority test cases for each of these test

Fedora 21 Beta RC4 live images available for early testing

2014-10-29 Thread Adam Williamson
This is not the official announcement as the compose has not been signed
off by release engineering, but the Beta RC4 lives are now all complete
in Koji:

http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/tasks?method=createLiveCD&state=closed&view=tree&order=-id

and I've put the validation pages up - see all the usual suspects:

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Results:Current_Installation_Test
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Results:Current_Desktop_Test
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Results:Current_Base_Test
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Results:Current_Summary

the other pages are up too, but we can't really do Server or Cloud tests
yet. As we're right up against Go/No-Go again (sigh...) it'd be a good
idea to get testing rolling early with the live builds, we can at least
blow through the desktop tests and quite a lot of the installer tests
using the lives. Any help with getting as much of the validation done as
possible would be great. Thanks, folks!

not find the root file system. I rebooted with the USB key, and
examined the grub.cfg. The kernel command line had root=/dev/sdc1
rather than root=/dev/sdb1.

Thanks for testing!

I'm not sure if it's possible to use something more reliable than drive
labels there, but if it is, it might be worth filing a bug asking to
consider it (I'm not sure off the top of my head of the details of how
that gets written). We can't do much about the enumeration changing - it
happens at the kernel level. It's kind of unavoidable when you have
hotplugged drive, and a big reason we try to use UUIDs in a lot of
cases.

The /etc/fstab has a UUID for the root

file system,
and /dev/sdc2 for the swap partition.

This part may be resolved in Beta RC4, I think (we encountered something
similar in testing firmware RAID install, and a udev settle was added to
mitigate it.)

installing on eeepc 701

2014-10-29 Thread Stephen Sheldon
I installed XFCE4 Live F21 on my eeepc 701 on a 8gb SDHC card in the the
internal reader using RC1. So I had sda the internal 4GB SDD drive, sdb
the USB key onto which I had copied the iso image via DD, and sdc the
SDHC card. I plugged my monitor into the eeepc 701 because I know that
complaints about resolution would not be received well. The install
succeeded, although the Anaconda progress bar got stuck on formatting
sdc1. I followed the install by switching to vt2 and watching until it
completed.

I removed the USB key and attempted to boot the newly installed system.
The boot of the new install failed, with a complaint it could not find
the root file system. I rebooted with the USB key, and examined the
grub.cfg. The kernel command line had root=/dev/sdc1 rather than
root=/dev/sdb1. The /etc/fstab has a UUID for the root file system,
and /dev/sdc2 for the swap partition. I fixed things up and
successfully booted the newly installed system.

It seems things get confused when installing from a USB key when there
are 2 internal drives.

I was impressed that the installed system was just above 2GB. I would
consider installing it to the internal 4GB SDD drive, where I currently
have a Xubuntu LTS system.

[Test-Announce] Fedora 21 Beta RC2 status is **FAILED**, RC3 will be coming

2014-10-29 Thread Adam Williamson
Wanted to keep everyone in the loop so people don't feel like their time
has been wasted.

We discovered at the blocker review meeting today that there's a problem
with the RC2 compose. Blocker and FE packages that were pushed stable
yesterday - https://fedorahosted.org/rel-eng/ticket/5988#comment:17 -
were taken out of the 'bleed' repository where blocker/FE fixes are
pulled into composes before they go stable, but they did not actually
get mashed/distributed in time to be included in the RC2 compose.

The upshot is that RC2 has incorrect (old) versions of initscripts,
systemd and fedup-dracut. This means that RC2 will be subject to at
least https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1114786 ,
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1099299 and
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1146580 , so it definitely
cannot be released as the Beta. We will need an RC3 compose, and testing
of RC2 will not be sufficient to clear RC3 for release due to the
significance of systemd.

Testing of RC2 is not entirely useless - it's still useful to check
there are no regressions in anaconda 21.48-13, for instance - but we
will need to do a good degree of testing on RC3 when it lands later
today before we can consider clearing RC3 for release. I'm very sorry to
folks who've already put work into testing RC2 for the mistake. Keep
your eyes peeled for RC3!

I mean to ensure it's enabled in the repos fedup pulls F21 packages
from. I believe fedup uses the repo configuration on the system when
it's run, so 'enable u-t before running fedup' should do the trick.

Some more details: If printing to the printers: PS or PDF files are
printed too by lp / lpr, but if I try to print simple text files, only
empty pages are printed.

Big problems with the lpr or lp command in F21 since some days: only empty sheets are printed

2014-10-29 Thread Joachim Backes
Dear F21 testers,

having big problems with printing using the lp or lpd command since 2 or
3 days: Only empty pages are printed. This happens for my real samsung
printer or with a cups-PDF printer.

On the other hand, printing to these printers from applications such as
firefox, thunderbird,... (using the print menu) is OK.

My F21 is fully updated. I downgraded already cups-client (current is
cups-client-1.7.5-13.fc21.x86_64), but this did not help.

Anybody has these problems too?

Kind regards

Joachim Backes

[Test-Announce] Fedora 21 Beta Release Candidate 2 (RC2) Available Now!

2014-10-29 Thread Andre Robatino
As per the Fedora 21 schedule [1], Fedora 21 Beta Release Candidate 2
(RC2) is now available for testing. Content information, including
changes, can be found at
https://fedorahosted.org/rel-eng/ticket/6010#comment:17 .

I'm using Fedora for servers and I'm testing F21.
Using F21-beta-tc4 x64 (fully updated) to build a mailserver was
successfully.
I used postfix (both stock and rebuilt with VDA quota patch).
Rebuilding postfix, maildrop and courier-imap was successfully completed
using and tested with F21.
SSL/TLS encryption seems to work well.
Not using yet selinux and firewall.
Still to test other server peaces.

Congrats, very good work,
C. Sava
