A big thanks to everyone who pitched in and helped with this! We have
pretty much 100% Alpha test coverage for 1.5. You folks are awesome.

[Test-Announce] Fedora 24 Alpha status is NO-GO

2016-03-19 Thread Jan Kurik
Release status of the Fedora 24 Alpha Go/No-Go Meeting is NO-GO.

Due to present blockers [1] in the Alpha_1.5 build, the decision is to
slip the Fedora 24 Alpha release for few days. As in many countries
there are going to be Easter beginning at the end of the next week, it
has been agreed to plan the next Go/No-Go meeting on Wednesday, March
23rd at 5PM UTC.

For more information please find the logs or minutes from the meeting [2][3].

As soon as Fedora 24 Alpha is signed off on, and everything for Freeze
break/blockers are pushed, the updates will get pushed.

Once Alpha gets signed off... same process each release, we freeze at
Alpha/Beta/GA and bits only go to testing until it's signed off and
goes out.

As you say - if you will remove an existing rescue kernel and its
initrams just before installing a new kernel then a rescue will be
"refreshed" from the one you are now installing. Assuming that you
installed required dracut support and you do not have
'dracut_rescue_image="no"' in your dracut configuration.

This actually worked wherever I tried.

[Test-Announce] Fedora 24 Alpha Candidate 5 (Alpha 1.5) Available Now!

2016-03-19 Thread Adam Williamson
A little after scheduled [1], Fedora 24 Alpha Candidate 5 (Alpha 1.5)
is now available for testing. Please help us complete all the
validation testing!

In case you're wondering, all the other compose attempts between 1.1
and 1.5 failed, except one which had an incorrect package in it.

We have go/no-go tomorrow, so we need to get through all the Alpha
tests with this compose if we possibly can. Please refer to
testcase_stats to see which Alpha tests haven't been run recently:
https://www.happyassassin.net/testcase_stats/24/

Content information, including changes, can be found at
https://fedorahosted.org/rel-eng/ticket/6371#comment:4 . Please see the
following pages for download links and testing instructions. At present
the compose is not synced to the 'alt' tree, so is not available from
any mirrors, only from the original compose location.

Installation:

Summary:

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Results:Current_Summary

All Alpha priority test cases for each of these test pages [2] must
pass in order to meet the Alpha Release Criteria [3].

Help is available on #fedora-qa on irc.freenode.net [4], or on the
test list [5].

[Test-Announce] Test day announcement: Integration of Qt applications in Fedora Workstation

2016-03-19 Thread Petr Schindler
Hi,

I would like to inform you that tomorrow (2016-03-17) is going to be a
test
day focusing on integration of Qt applications in Fedora Workstation
(Gnome
shell). There are two packages/components making Qt applications more
integrated into Gnome world. The first one is adwaita-qt, which is a Qt
theme
trying to look identical to adwaita theme in gtk. The second one is
QGnomePlatform, which is a Qt platform plugin forcing Qt applications
to use
adwaita-qt theme and also same font and icons as Gnome does.

If you use any Qt application while you use Gnome, then help us to make
this
integration better and attend the test day, report your issues or
propose your
ideas. You can find more information about the test day here [1].

Hey folks! Just a quick note on this: this was the first non-nightly
validation event that was created and announced automatically rather
than manually. I know some of you like to have the links to the compose
request ticket in the emails so you can see what packages were
requested for the compose; for the moment that's gone missing because
the event creation code doesn't know how to find the ticket and the
specific comment within it for this event. I'll see if it's not too
painful to at least get a link to the ticket back into the email, but
if it would be too finicky, we'll instead work on getting the same
information back by other means; ideally we want the whole process of
requesting and creating candidate composes to be automated too, and if
that got done it would likely be quite easy for the bot to use
information from that process in the announcement mail.

One thing I can look at is using PDC to get a full package diff between
the compose and the previous one.

So this one turns out to be rather interesting, now I finally got a
minute to sit down and look at it. The point of this test is to see if
loading an anaconda updates.img from a hard disk attached to the system
works. The test uses a disk image with an updates.img file on it,
produced by the createhdds.py script we have for producing various pre-
canned hard disk images. garretraziel pointed out that the updates.img
file on the disk image on the official openQA servers didn't seem to be
correct - it was only 4096 bytes long, the original file is 6509. The
test was passing on his dev install of openQA.

So I poked at it a bit further and this actually seems to be a bug in
(specifically) python2-libguestfs. When I run the createhdds script
with Python 2, the bug occurs - the updates.img file is incorrect. When
I run the createhdds script with Python 3, the disk image is created
properly.

createhdds.py actually has #!/usr/bin/env python3 as its hashbang, but
for the production openQA deployments I was running it through python2
explicitly (can't remember why, probably just reducing the number of
packages that needed to be installed or something). So on our test
deployments we weren't seeing the bug because we were running
createhdds with its default interpreter, python3; the bug was only
showing up on the official instances, where we were forcibly running it
through python2.

So, I've tweaked the ansible playbook to install the necessary python3
deps and run createhdds.py with python3, and wiped the bad disk image
files so they got recreated. From now on the test should pass. I filed
the guestfs bug: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1319347

how to create grub rescue kernel entry?

2016-03-19 Thread Andre Robatino
The F24 lives don't contain a rescue kernel or generate the corresponding
grub entry (see https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1317709 ). Is
there a way to install the rescue kernel if it was not done during the
initial install? (The package dracut-config-rescue was not installed, and
I've installed that manually.) I've nominated this bug as a FE, but it would
be less important if there's a way to fix the problem after install.

I talked to mbriza and the dd mode is already default in the development
version of liveusb-creator, just not yet pushed as an update (still some
tweaking going on).

I removed the entry from my grub2-efi.cfg and it never came back until
I realized that I hadn't removed the rescue stuff from /boot. if you
have an old rescue kernel and initramfs it won't make a new one.

Removing those and installing a new kernel did make it work.

So, to cleanly remove it:

* remove the grub2* entry
* rm the stuff from /boot
* dnf remove dracut-config-rescue

I should be generated when you do a kernel install next.

all it does is copies a kernel and make s a generic initramfs for it. its
supposed to be a known working kernel. though I do wonder how my resuce
kernel from 2013 will do with a fedora 24 system

basic video on Macs needs testing

2016-03-19 Thread Chris Murphy
Hi,

For Alpha 1.5 Basic Video Test on UEFI
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/QA:Testcase_Anaconda_User_Interface_Basic_Video_Driver

I did this test on an Intel NUC which has UEFI firmware and hence GOP
graphics. Video works with and without nomodeset.

I also did the test on a Macbook Pro which is EFI but doesn't have GOP
graphics, being from 2011 it has UGA graphics. Graphics fails with and
without nomodeset on it, but for different reasons. So someone else
with a Mac should test this with and without modeset to make sure
there isn't a wide range of Macs impacted by this. Hopefully it's just
dual headed Macs with UGA graphics, or worst case it's all UGA Macs
and not the newer GOP ones.
