FWIW, whatever was wrong in my part of the world has resolved itself. I
removed the
=global from the repo URL, did a "dnf clean metadata" and "dnf
check-update"
completed without incident.

GNOMEShell top bar

2017-06-16 Thread Russel Winder
Hi,

Some time in the last 4 or 6 weeks a GNOMEShell update has changed the
behaviour of the top bar: it seems dynamic top bar is now built in, not
an extension, and I would really like to switch it off and have the
always black top bar.

I appreciate that this is not a Fedora issue per se, but that dynamic
top bar is beginning to get very irritating.

I guess the obvious next question is whether you can access that URL.

That hostname has ten IP4 addresses and five IP6 addresses and sadly DNF
doesn't tell you which actually addresses it's trying to contact. It
really needs to have some way to give complete information about exactly
which host it is contacting and what the conversation looks like. It's
not possible to tell if it's hitting one bad host and giving up, or if
there's some networking problem on the client end, or if the sun
imploded. Guess I'll go search for upstream DNF bugs.

Look in /var/log/dnf.librepo.log.

(There's an RFE for a dnf option to display this, but apparently it's
hard because it's really the lower-level library which knows the URL,
so there needs to be some way to hand the info back up.)

I've seen that if the date/time is wrong due to cert verification.
Also you can add =global to the end of the repo URL and see if
that works and it will return any mirror.

Messages from VB dev version VirtualBox-5.1.23-116111-Linux_amd64.run

2017-06-16 Thread George R Goffe
Hi,

Are these messages expected now, I have a ton of them? I have never seen them
in all the devel versions of VB that I've used.

Do I need to do anything?

Thanks,

George...

Well I don't know what mirror it may be trying to contact.

If I do a dnf -d 9 check-update the last lines of output are

Cannot download
'https://mirrors.fedoraproject.org/metalink?repo=fedora-26=x86_64': Cannot
download repomd.xml: Cannot download repodata/repomd.xml: All mirrors were
tried.
Cleaning up.

What's the magic to expose what mirror I'm using?

I don't think so and it's mirrored out. I suspect you're in an area
where there's not a lot of country based mirrors (I've seen this in
some networks in Australia for example) and those mirrors aren't in
sync. There was some big updates gout our of late so some mirrors
might still be catching up.

Fw: Virtual keyboard problems.

2017-06-16 Thread George R Goffe
Hi,

I just installed a ton of packages to this system and all of a sudden I have
this virtual keyboard that gets in the way when I use any browser. Yes, you
guessed it, I don't know which package brought me this head ache. My objective
was to test install as many packages as possible. Sigh...

This system is a Fedora 27 x86_64 (rawhide). I'm using KDE but the problem
appears with WindowMaker although it's not as severe. The monitor is a Samsung
27" TV and has NO touch screen capability that I have the laptop screen
unselected via system-settings, I don't think it's a touch screen. I'm aware
of. I am using ONLY the TV as a monitor... the one on the laptop is disabled as
far as KDE is concerned.
qt5-qtvirtualkeyboard, on-board, and eekboard are not installed

Any/all help hints/tips would be GREATLY appreciated.

My UNENDING Thanks,
