f33-backgrounds available in the repository

2020-08-19 Thread Luya Tshimbalanga

Hello team and testers,

f33-backgrounds is now available for testing in Fedora 33 repository.
The major change is the time of day enabled by default (default animated
background) on Workstation Edition and Design Suite Labs. As a result,
the animated subpackage is eliminated from this release.

For users running on different desktop environments, both MATE and
Cinnamon inherit that function and their respective spin maintainers can
optionally enable. Selecting a a separate default background with their
time of day version is now possible for KDE and XFCE which lacks support
of time of day features. Developers are free to provide a patch to enable.

For installation on GNOME or Cinnamon,

sudo dnf install f33-backgrounds-{base,gnome}

For MATE,

sudo dnf install f33-backgrounds-{base,mate}

For KDE,

sudo dnf install f33-backgrounds-{base,kde}

For XFCE,

sudo dnf install f33-backgrounds-{base,xfce}

Thank you for testing

Hard to find it at this price now, but I got my AMD RX 580 on Ebay new for
$144 delivered.

On a related note: I recently built a 3700X machine, with my old, existing
nVidia Ti750 card. I've never been happy with the nVidia drivers.

Can anyone recommend an AMD video card to replace it at a reasonable
price? ($150-200 US)

Thanks.

Unless you plan on overclocking, I think the Ryzen 5 3600 provides the best
value at 65W TDP which is why I picked it (and the 2600 prior). My office
is already 10F higher than the rest of the house running Folding@Home on my

AMD Ryzen purchasing question

2020-08-19 Thread David
Sort of related to RAWHIDE

I am building a new computer next week, and already have a new fancy X570
motherboard and all - just lack the new cpu finally.

One of the things that I hope to do, is report my experiences living in
RAWHIDE, as my one and only OS.I know you all have advised against that
idea. I am a curmudgeon.

My question isthis:

Would Fedora listserve members be more interested in my RAWHIDE discussion
if I purchased a Ryzen 9 ?

I am willing to only use the refreshed Athlon - if that would be more
interesting.

But my X570 has lots of bells and whistles that would get inused or
overlooked, if I do not use at least a Ryzen 7. Right ?

If nobody cares, then I will just look for a good sale - which is likely
going to be the Ryzen 5 3600.

I do not feel qualified to be a tester, and have little spare personal
time, and I do not work in a computer related field, nor have any skills -
other than desire to learn.

Chau or Ciao,

David Locklear

Introduction

2020-08-19 Thread Geraldo Simião Kutz
Hi everybody.

Iḿ using fedora only for a few months by now, but i used linux mint since
2017.
I love the free software philosophy and principles, and have been attracted
to the fedora project way of collaborative work.

I'm very happy with my fedora32 kde spin.

I'm not a developer or a sysadmin, but a user and enthusiast who wants to
collaborate with the project.

I'm from Brazil and wanna help with testing and fedora promotion.

I did have one doubt in mind. Does the Results page for any of the test
weeks get updated as soon as we enter our results? I was asking this
because i did run the default test for the kernel 5.8 test week and it
passed i also entered the output on the results page but i don't see my
report on the result page. Is there anything else i need to do?

Hey Arna!

Welcome to Fedora QA, It will be great if you apply for qa FAS group.
If you have, I have sponsored you by now. If you haven't then please
apply and send me an email with your FAS ID and I will approve.

You can start off by testing updates in
[http://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/] for Fedora 31, Fedora 32, and Fedora
33. Update testing is where a tester tests a package and gives out a
+1 Karma for PASS and -1 Karma for FAIL. You can go to
bodhi.fedoraproject.org where you can sort the packages with Fedora
Releases and tags viz "pending" & "testing". You can read much about
update testing here [1]. You can also, use fedora-easy-karma for
giving out feedbacks.
You can start with Release Validation testing. In Release Validation
all you need to do is to check the nightly/TC/RC against certain
criteria. For example, let's take the latest compose (Fedora 33
Rawhide 20200811.n.0), you can run test cases which are mentioned [2]
and submit your results in the test matrix.

Note that each of the test cases[3] will have "How to test" section
which will have the steps (to be executed sequentially) and if the
results match with the expected results you can mark it as pass by
editing the wiki page {{result|PASS|}}. Always make sure
to check for "Associated release criterion" which can be found on the
top of test case page, if your test case fails you can mark it fail by
editing the wiki page {{result|FAIL|}} and file a bug at
RHBZ [4] under Fedora.

You can always find the ‘current’ validation pages using these addresses:

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Results:Current_Installation_Test

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Results:Current_Server_Test

Hey noblesomto,

Thanks for testing the Kernel!
If you have time, we are running a GNOME Test Day today and you can start
testing the shiny GNOME 3.37.90 that just landed.

Self Introduction: Arna Maity

2020-08-19 Thread Arna Maity
Hello Everyone,

I am an Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering student in the final
year of my undergraduation. I have been using Linux for my primary
development machine for about 7 years now and have some experience in
building kernels from source and installing them. Moreover i spend quite
some time tinkering with linux, so i thought the joining the QA team could
help me develop my troubleshooting skills and also give back to the
community at the same time.

I am looking forward to joining the fedora community.

Hey noblesomto, I just sponsored your membership.

As you know the kernel test week is undergoing.
More test days will come. They are great occasions to start to
contribute.

Thanks,

GNOME 3.37 Test Day is under way!

2020-08-19 Thread Sumantro Mukherjee
Hey All

Fedora 33 GNOME 3.37 Test Day is happening[0] now.
This is the time when we test the new features and version bumps of
all the GNOME apps which came with the megaupdate.
You can use the latest F33 image (pointed on the wiki) for this Test Day.

If you have some spare time, please help run the test cases
mentioned[1] and report the bugs on Gnome GitLab or RHBZ (if it's
Fedora specific).
