Can I get some doc links to rtfm? Please? Yes the UUID of /boot has changed, so grub.cfg is looking for the wrong grub root (which is normally /boot). BIOS firmware you need: grub2-install /dev/sdX - whatever is the whole drive block device. This adds a btrfs driver to GRUB core.img so it can read /boot grub2-mkconfig -o /etc/grub2.cfg - this will add the UUID of /boot UEFI firmware you need just the 2nd command but it needs to be /etc/grub2-efi.cfg Their real locations are: ls -l /etc ... lrwxrwxrwx. 1 root root22 Aug 21 08:30 grub2.cfg -> ../boot/grub2/grub.cfg lrwxrwxrwx. 1 root root31 Aug 21 08:30 grub2-efi.cfg -> ../boot/efi/EFI/fedora/grub.cfg Make sure whether you have UEFI or BIOS though. One way is run efibootmgr. If there's an error, it's BIOS. If multi-line output it's UEFI. You do not want to run grub-install on UEFI. -- Chris Murphy ___ test mailing list -- test@lists.fedoraproject.org To unsubscribe send an email to test-le...@lists.fedoraproject.org Fedora Code of Conduct: https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/project/code-of-conduct/ List Guidelines: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Mailing_list_guidelines List Archives: https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/test@lists.fedoraproject.org
making a /boot partition into fs-type btrfs gives "unrecognizable file system" message from grub2
Hi, I'm playing around with FC34 ina VM and have backed up /boot; put a btrfs fs on the partition; restored from the backup, updated fstab but grub2 still goes into rescue mode. This tells me that there's something I don't know which is entirely possible. Could it be a missing driver in the initfs (name btrfs)? Is there a quick answer? Can I get some doc links to rtfm? MariaDB Broken?
Hello Everyone, After i updated my Fedora Rawhide, mariadb stopped working. i uninstalled it and trying to reinstall again, but i keep running into error. [root@noblecontracts noble]# mysql_install_db Installing MariaDB/MySQL system tables in '@MYSQL_DATADIR@' ... 2020-09-02 19:22:30 0 [Warning] Can't create test file /usr/@MYSQL_DATADIR@ /noblecontracts.lower-test /usr/libexec/mysqld: Can't change dir to '/usr/@MYSQL_DATADIR@/' (Errcode: 2 "No such file or directory") 2020-09-02 19:22:30 0 [ERROR] Aborting Installation of system tables failed! Examine the logs in @LOG_LOCATION@ or @MYSQL_DATADIR@ for more information. The problem could be conflicting information in an external my.cnf files. You can ignore these by doing: shell> /usr/bin/mysql_install_db --defaults-file=~/.my.cnf You can also try to start the mysqld daemon with: shell> /usr/libexec/mysqld --skip-grant-tables --general-log & and use the command line tool /usr/bin/mysql to connect to the mysql database and look at the grant tables: shell> /usr/bin/mysql -u root mysql mysql> show tables; Try 'mysqld --help' if you have problems with paths. Using --general-log gives you a log in @MYSQL_DATADIR@ that may be helpful. The latest information about mysql_install_db is available at https://mariadb.com/kb/en/installing-system-tables-mysql_install_db You can find the latest source at https://downloads.mariadb.org and the maria-discuss email list at https://launchpad.net/~maria-discuss Please check all of the above before submitting a bug report at http://mariadb.org/jira Has anyone run into this recently? Bikeshed away! > > [1] https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1870476 Hey Michael, all criteria proposals should definitely (also) go to the test list, adding into CC. Just to put everyone on the same page, we already have this Basic criterion: "A system installed with a release-blocking desktop must boot to a log in screen where it is possible to log in to a working desktop using a user account created during installation or a 'first boot' utility." https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Basic_Release_Criteria#Expected_installed_system_boot_behavior That means that user creation is already guaranteed to be functional (but might be rough around the edges). Of course that doesn't cover any other actions available in the initial setup. Therefore your proposal (targeting the Final milestone, which seems sensible) makes sense in this regard. There are the screens in the initial setup: 1. Welcome 2. Privacy (Location Services, Automatic Problem Reporting) 3. Online Accounts (Google, Nextcloud, Microsoft, Facebook) 4. About You (Name, Username, Enterprise Login) 5. Password 6. Done Since every screen contains just a couple of things, the "basic functionality test" as you phrased it seems to cover essentially everything that is present in there, with one arguable exception of the Enterprise Login functionality. Do you have the same impression? This will also cover the other initial setup screen that is visible for KDE and other desktops (does it run also for ARM text installs? I'm not sure). That one contains: 1. User Creation (Name, Username, Password, Make admin, Advanced) And that was all (at least for my KDE install during which I didn't create a regular user). Overall I find the criterion reasonable and useful and I'm +1 to incorporating it. Its current phrasing seems fine to me. ___ test mailing list -- test@lists.fedoraproject.org To unsubscribe send an email to test-le...@lists.fedoraproject.org Fedora Code of Conduct: https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/project/code-of-conduct/ List Guidelines: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Mailing_list_guidelines List Archives: https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/test@lists.fedoraproject.org

It is a good time to join the QA team. :-) As you know Fedora 33 is on its way to be released in less than a couple of months. [1] So it is always a good thing that people perform as many test as possible before the release. And as you may already know, this week is the Fedora Test Week for Btrfs [2] Test days schedule can be found on the fedocal https://apps.fedoraproject.org/calendar/list/QA/?subject=Test+Day You can start with Release Validation testing. In Release Validation all you need to do is to check the nightly/TC/RC against certain criteria. For example, let's take the latest compose nominated for testing (Fedora 33 Branched 20200822.n.0), you can run test cases which are mentioned [3] and submit your results in the test matrix. Note that each of the test cases[4] will have "How to test" section which will have the steps (to be executed sequentially) and if the results match with the expected results you can mark it as pass by editing the wiki page {{result|PASS|}}. Always make sure to check for "Associated release criterion" which can be found on the top of test case page, if your test case fails you can mark it fail by editing the wiki page {{result|FAIL|}} and file a bug at RHBZ [5] under Fedora. You can always find the ‘current’ validation pages using these addresses: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Results:Current_Installation_Test https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Results:Current_Base_Test https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Results:Current_Desktop_Test https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Results:Current_Server_Test https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Results:Current_Cloud_Test You can start off by testing updates in [ http://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/] for Fedora 31, Fedora 32, and Fedora 33. Update testing is where a tester tests a package and gives out a +1 Karma for PASS and -1 Karma for FAIL. You can go to bodhi.fedoraproject.org where you can sort the packages with Fedora Releases and tags viz "pending" & "testing". You can read much about update testing here [6]. You can also, use fedora-easy-karma for giving out feedbacks. For Automation, you can start looking at Open QA[ https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/OpenQA] its maintained by Adamw.
