[Test-Announce] 2020-09-21 @ 16:00 UTC - Fedora 33 Blocker Review Meeting

2020-09-18 Thread Adam Williamson
# F33 Blocker Review meeting
# Date: 2020-09-21
# Time: 16:00 UTC
# Location: #fedora-blocker-review on irc.freenode.net

Hi folks! We have 4 proposed Beta blockers, 4 proposed Beta freeze
exceptions and 3 proposed Final blockers to review, so we'll have a
Fedora 33 blocker review meeting on Monday. Unfortunately I'm not going
to be around to run it, but fortunately Ben Cotton has stepped up to do
it. Thanks Ben!

If you have time this weekend, you can take a look at the proposed or
accepted blockers before the meeting - the full lists can be found
here: https://qa.fedoraproject.org/blockerbugs/ .

** NEW ** - you can also now vote on bugs outside of review meetings!
For the Fedora 33 cycle we enabled a new voting system and have been
using it pretty heavily. If you look at the bug list in the blockerbugs
app, you'll see links labeled "Vote!" next to all proposed blockers and
freeze exceptions. Those links take you to tickets where you can vote.
https://pagure.io/fedora-qa/blocker-review has instructions on how
exactly you do it. We usually go through the tickets shortly before the
meeting and apply any clear votes, so the meeting will just cover bugs
where there wasn't a clear outcome in the ticket voting yet.

We'll be evaluating these bugs to see if they violate any of the
Release Criteria and warrant the blocking of a release if they're not
fixed. Information on the release criteria for F33 can be found on the
wiki [0].

For more information about the Blocker and Freeze exception process,
check out these links:
 - https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/QA:SOP_freeze_exception_bug_process

And for those of you who are curious how a Blocker Review Meeting
works - or how it's supposed to go and you want to run one - check out
the SOP on the wiki:

Have a good weekend and see you on Monday!

[Test-Announce] Proposal to CANCEL: 2020-09-21 Fedora QA Meeting

2020-09-18 Thread Adam Williamson
Hi folks! I'm proposing we cancel the QA meeting for Monday. I don't
have much for the agenda, and I actually won't be available to run the
meeting either. If there is a desire to have the meeting, someone else
can volunteer to run it :)

Thanks!

This is not quite an accurate description. If you get to the actual
backtrace generation action, fallback from the remote server to local
processing *does* work. The problem is that report_uReport tries to run
*before you ever reach that stage*, and report_uReport can only work if
retrace.fedoraproject.org is up and accepting reports. There's no
fallback for report_uReport.

Arguably, it failing should be non-fatal, but it seems like it's fatal.

For me, anyway. Would be good if others could confirm.

Bug-by-bug detail

Accepted blockers
-
1. libreport — https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1860616 — VERIFIED
abrt-server errors when processing zstd compressed core dumps produced
by systemd-246~rc1-1.fc33

This appears to be fixed with FEDORA-2020-444a3363f0, which causes BZ
1878317. That may block getting this fix in.

2. dbus-broker — https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1861700 — ON_QA
login stuck when changing users repeatedly (log out, log in a different one)

User processes linger after logout which blocks logging in when
another user has logged in between the two sessions. Or when the
second user logs back in. Or when a single user logs in repeatedly. An
update to kf5-baloo (FEDORA-2020-5b486e191b) address part of the
issue, but it's likely that this is a many-fix problem.

3. libreport — https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1873029 — VERIFIED
bugs can't be reported: "No matching actions found for this event"

This appears to be fixed with FEDORA-2020-444a3363f0, which causes BZ
1878317. That may block getting this fix in.

4. abrt https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1878317 — NEW
Can't report a crash (even with local processing) due to "Could not
resolve host: retrace.fedoraproject.org"

Since the retrace server is still offline, abrt should fall back to
local processing. It does not. As an unprivileged user, skipping the
report_uReport step results in chmod errors and behavior like BZ
1873029. As root, it core dumps. We're in general agreement that if
either online or local processing works, that's good enough for beta.
Ticket for retrace server is
https://pagure.io/fedora-infrastructure/issue/9060

Proposed blockers
-

1. anaconda — https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1879127 — ON_QA
a metalink repository can't be added using UI

Adding a metalink repository to the installer incorrectly modifies the
URL. FEDORA-2020-e1d834c1ef contains a potential fix (Adam has a ISO
at
https://www.happyassassin.net/temp/00669088-FEDORA-2020-e1d834c1ef-netinst-x86_64.iso).
This bug is accepted as a freeze exception even if it doesn't get
enough votes for blocker status.

2. NetworkManager — https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1863041 — NEW
systemd-resolved.service not work with DNS server placed behind VPN
(openconnect)

The scope of this bug has narrowed to the point where a revote
indicates it's probably no longer a blocker. We may consider using
only the static "Use this connection..." property instead of that
*and* pushed routes to determine if the VPN is full-tunnel. Currently
if the server pushed any routes, the openconnect plugin tells
NetworkManager not to add a default route.

3. pki-core — https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1878616 — ON_QA
Running ipa-server-install fails in step [1/30]: configuring
certificate server instance

Installation fails in Rawhide (only?). The package updates that appear
to be causing the problem never made it into F33.

Should I try to get a freeze exception and get it to Fedora 33 Beta?

Pros:

We would test Fedora 33 Beta with Python that is close to identical to the one
in Fedora 33 Final.

Cons:

If there is a regression, we could break Beta prior to its release.

I've actually proposed it, so the discussion can happen while
approving/rejecting it:

 you're right. I only ever press F8/volume+ key without
pressing Fn key too. When I use Fn+F8 so far I'm consistently getting
a grub menu (this is virt-manager).

The hardware case is different. They seem to accept F8 key alone or in
combination with Fn key as F8. So if F8 key is pressed, for sure the
firmware menu comes up. So shift needs to work for grub - or
something. Spacebar. Tab. Anything. But this is why I gave up on menu
autohide a long time ago and just unset autohide on baremetal
machines.

I'm beginning to think it depends on specific combinations of
things... including the phase of the moon.

Stephen says you can hit any key to make GRUB show, I couldn't verify that

Testing F33 Workstation

2020-09-18 Thread pmkel...@frontier.com

I've been testing right along, but haven't been reporting since the
problems I have encountered have been small compared to some of the
issues currently on the table. I am currently running F33
Workstation-Live 0916.n.0. As usual my testing is on bare metal. The
installs have been running fine.

I've seen the printer problems go from bad to worse when I couldn't even
install a printer with CUPS. Now I'm back to being able to install the
printer with CUPS, but only using the generic driver. Settings Printer
and Print Settings haven't been able to install a printer since when F33
was Rawhide.

I've been trying to break btrfs, but only for cases applicable to my as
deployed testing installing and uninstalling things trying to fragment
the disk and doing "user" unfortunate things to files. So far I haven't
seen any problems with btrfs.

There is one package in the repo that has a problem. It doesn't seem to
be retired. In fact the the version we are using in F32 is listed as the
current version for F33. The package seems to be scrambled with items
that don't seem to belong and some things missing. I don't know how this
should be reported. The package is "pitivi".

This bug still present, but as I said small issue. I'm wondering if I
have reported this against the wrong package. Since the Firewall-Applet
works in non-Gnome desktops should this be reported against one of the
Gnome components or perhaps Mutter since I suspect this is a Wayland
issue? I guess this could be an issue where the Firewall folks haven't
updated this to be Wayland compliant. Clarifications and Suggestions are
welcome.

Using virt-manager, F8 increases the sound on my laptop. For whatever
reason it never passes through to the VM only. And two of three
computers F8 is reserved for the firmware.

Self-introduction: (Serge Matveenko)

2020-09-18 Thread Serge Matveenko
Hello, All!

I would like to join the QA team. My main interests are in validating
releases and testing around Fedora Silverblue along with anything
related to containerization. I'm really interested in testing upcoming
Parental Control features as well.

About me:) I'm 39. I'm located in Saint-Petersburg, Russia. Married,
have two children of age 7 and 3. My oldest just have started playing
around with C.

I have 3 laptops all running Fedora. I've been a Fedora user for
around 7 years and a Linux user for 14 years. I've been programming
since the age of 10 and now I'm a Software Developer & Architect.

I usually have a couple VMs on my laptop playing around with upcoming
releases of Fedora. So, I think that it's a good idea to get a bit of
a use out of this habit:)

You may contact me in one of the following ways:
* email: s...@matveenko.ru
* keybase: lig
* telegram: lig11
* irc: lig (I tend to loose control over my nicks)

Re: holding shift on boot does not reveal grub menu

2020-09-18 Thread Stephen Snow
In order to bring up the boot menu in Grub2 you press any key. This is
a choice made after BIOS boot selection (if on EFI/UEFI BIOS). I am
running Silverblue on F33 Rawhide compose 33.20200914.n.0
(2020-09-14T08:05:11Z) (915,916, and 917 won't boot) and it works on my
bare metal setup.

Stephen

I'm not sure when this regression appeared. It was working with F32
VM's and I think also with some earlier F33 VMs.

Anyway, right now it's not working for me with either virt-manager
or

baremetal (sample size of one each).

What about quickly pressing F8? On my baremetal, Shift doesn't work
either. But as I remember, many BIOSes simply ignore keys which are
pressed down during initialization, to prevent "stuck keys". That's
why there are two different key options to display GRUB.

Python 3.9.0rc2 Fedora 33 update

2020-09-18 Thread Miro Hrončok

Hello.

Python 3.9.0rc2, the last preview before the final release of Python 3.9.0 has
been released yesterday.

The Fedora 33 update is at:

https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2020-78bb031321

Should I try to get a freeze exception and get it to Fedora 33 Beta?

Pros:

We would test Fedora 33 Beta with Python that is close to identical to the one
in Fedora 33 Final.

Cons:

If there is a regression, we could break Beta prior to its release.

What about quickly pressing F8? On my baremetal, Shift doesn't work either.
But as I remember, many BIOSes simply ignore keys which are pressed down
during initialization, to prevent "stuck keys". That's why there are two
different key options to display GRUB.
