not really Rawhide related

2020-10-26 Thread David
I just updated Rawhide and all is swell.

What is unique about this ( at least for me ) is that
I removed my NVMe out of my new Ryzen 3 computer,
and put it in a newer computer that I built a few minutes
ago ( using a Ryzen 5 3600XT
using the new Gigabyte Vision D B550 motherboard. )

I really like this new motherboard, much more so than my
ASUS X570-F Gaming.

I fried my old Ryzen 3, by installing fancy braided power cables in my case
that were not the same pin-arrangement as my Corsair PSU.

I do not know if I damaged the old motherboard, but chose to get
a new one and the Ryzen 5 and re-use everything else. After
30 minutes, things look good so far.

I just updated the BIOS.

Three hottest temperatures of entire system ( according to "sensors" )
Tctl: +47.1°C
Tdie: +47.1°C
Tccd1: +34.2°C
while watching YouTube, but I have a huge case with just lots of fans.

I also removed my Fedora 33 NVMe from the secondary slot from the
old motherboard and will be checking that out next.

I have been using my newer computer for about an hour.Surely, by now
I would have known or detected if I had earlier fried the re-used components
( graphics card, PSU, memory, case power-switch, NVMe's, etc. ). I hope
to upgrade those again someday, but don't want to in 2020.

Sometime inexperienced users are able to catch very interesting bugs

I agree.
You can read more about validation testing for Fedora 34 Rawhide here
[0] and here [1]

We are currently testing Kernel 5.9, that will be released for Fedora
34 and 33 and 32. You can currently help at the Fedora Test Week for
Kernel 5.9 [2]

Or you can start off by testing updates in
for Fedora 31, Fedora 32, and Fedora
33. Update testing is where a tester tests a package and gives out a
+1 Karma for PASS and -1 Karma for FAIL. You can go to
bodhi.fedoraproject.org where you can sort the packages with Fedora
Releases and tags viz "pending" & "testing". You can read much about
update testing here [3]. You can also, use fedora-easy-karma from the
terminal in order to give feedbacks.

We usually involve ourselves in activities marked in [4].
You can catch us mostly here in this mailing list, in the #fedora-qa
IRC channel on Freenode or on Telegram. Feel free to ask whatever you
question you have.

Introduction

2020-10-26 Thread Alexandra Gavrilicheva
Hello,

I'm happy to join the Fedora Test Project! I don't have much experience
with Linux yet, but would like to learn by contributing.

I've been learning manual testing recently and enjoyed working with Linux
specifically. I'm eager to start applying the knowledge and skills I've
acquired so far.

Let me introduce myself. My name is Aleksandra, I'm 26 years old and live
in Saint Petersburg, Russia. I've been studying to become a doctor,
but in the end decided to take a different life path. I've spent a lot of
time at my computer ever since I was a kid, but never touched Linux until
last year.
It's been an interesting challenge, and I'd like to know more.

I was looking to start with release validation testing as it seemed like
the most straightforward thing for a beginner like me.

I'm a bit lost as to where exactly can I begin and would greatly aprecciate
any help with getting started.

Feel free to contact me via email: alexandraapril...@gmail.com

My english is rusty (desperately need a dictionary/google translate for
every second sentence I type) but I'm working on it.
As you may have guessed I do speak Russian fluently :)

Re: ssh to gnu fails after F33 update

"rsa-sha2-256,rsa-sha2-51" are already part of the Fedora 33 crypto
policy.  This configuration works (as I understand it) because the '+'
value adds key types to the default set, rather than the local policy.
The effect is that the configuration above downgrades the crypto policy
so that it includes 'ssh-rsa' again, and that's the key type that ends
up used with OpenSSH 7.4 servers.

This is a bug in the OpenSSH 7.4 server they're using.  I provided a
patch to work around it in the client, here:
