How to update Fedora rawhide from Fedora 30 to Fedora 31

2019-03-07 Thread Bowen Wang
Hi All,
I have been using Fedora rawhide for months, before, the version
number of rawhide is 30, today it seems that it has been updated to
Fedora 31.
When I tried to run
sudo dnf upgrade --refresh

to update rawhide as usual, it asks me for a key to import, I chose
the Fedora 30 package signing key, and the upgrade just failed. I
tried to search online for Fedora 31 package signing key, but it seems
that there is just keys for Fedora 30, how should I get the newest
package signing key for Fedora 31?

Best,
Bowen

2017-08-19 Thread Bowen Wang
Hi,

in the directory /etc/pki/rpm-gpg/, but I couldn't find keys for fedora 28,
where can I get GPG key for fedora 28? Thanks.

Error Summary

Is there any problems with the kernel package?

Upgrade failed because of GPG keys

2017-03-02 Thread Bowen Wang
Hi,
I am using Fedora rawhide right now. Today when I run he command
sudo dnf upgrade --refresh
after downloading all the packages I need, the terminal said that the gpgkey is
not correct, I have noticed that
a lot of packages are from f27 repo, while my gpg key for dnf is still f26,
does anyone know how to change it?

Re: DNS not working in 0225 compose

2017-02-25 Thread Bowen Wang
All right. Because I don't have network cable in my hard, I can't test if it is
working under wired condition.
But when I logged into the system, the network service is not working. There is
no icon on the task bar to
indicate whether you are connected to the internet or which way(wifi or wired)
you are connecting to the
internet. Also when I try to open the network manager, I found I can't open it.
I can see it in the application
menu, but when I tried to open it, it is just cannot be opened. Maybe the
network driver is down?

DNS not working in 0225 compose

2017-02-25 Thread Bowen Wang
Hi,
I just upgrade my Fedora rawhide to 0225 snapshot, I can log into the system,
but when I try to use network applications such as
Firefox, it cannot open pages. Then I tried
ping www.google.com
the terminal says that the service is unknown. So I think maybe it is the DNS
problem. But a weird thing is that if I used a older
version kernel, the problem is gone, right now I am writing this email using
4.11.0.rc0.git2.1, the whole system is working good.

Ok, I will try to boot the kernel with nomodeset when I get home. From
my understanding, the nomodeset disable the video driver, will that
affect the performance?

Is there any possibilities that it is caused by gnome-shell or other

It is pretty similar to a bug that happen about 1 month ago.

Fedora Rawhide cannot boot up after upgrade to 20170117 snapshot

2017-01-17 Thread Bowen Wang
Hi everyone,
After I upgraded to the 20170117 snapshot, I cannot boot up fedora
rawhide. I can see the loading screen with the fedora logo, but after
that, the screen just switch to the text mode, the last line in the text
mode is:
Started Virtualization daemon. Dispatcher Service...nge
transactions
Then screen just went black, no other information. I can't see the login
screen of the GNOME.
Does anybody have the same issue?

Re: GNOME Shell not working on Fedora Rawhide?

I think I got the same issue. I think maybe it is because I didn't
upgrade my gnome shell because when I want to upgrade it using
dnf upgrade --refresh
It always said that skip package because of broken dependency. I don't
know what is going on here. Is there any bug report in Bugzilla?

Re: The 20161202.n.2 build cannot boot up

2016-12-03 Thread Bowen Wang
Hi Adam,
I have see the tutorial of system debugging, when I was stuck in the boot,
I press Ctrl-Alt-F2 to another terminal,
in the second terminal, I use the command
dmesg
to get the debug information of system
I think the problem may be in the gnome stuff because when I check the last
part of the debug log(I guess it is where things got stuck), it seems to be
related to GNOME-shell and GNOME-session. Remember I sent to this mailing
list couple days ago that I can not update these packages because the DNF
said that there is some broken dependencies, so DNF just skip those
packages. So I still use the old version of GNOME-session and GNOME-shell
since maybe 10 days ago.
Can I get the broken dependencies fixed? I guess that my laptop will work
if I can get those dependencies fixed.

The 20161202.n.2 build cannot boot up

2016-12-03 Thread Bowen Wang
Hi everyone,
I just run the command
dnf upgrade --refresh
to update to the 20161202.n.2 build
but after I updated the system, it cannot be boot up, it will be stuck in
the boot process
there will 3 places that the boot process can be stuck in
1. the output
started gnome display rook ... service some_other_stuff
2. the output
started virtualization daemon hook... service some_other_stuff
3 the output
install ABRT coredump ...some_other_stuff

And it is also useless to use the older kernel to boot up. Pretty weird.
is there any problems in the latest build?

Fedora Rawhide 4.9.0 rc0 Kernel Crash

2016-10-05 Thread Bowen Wang
Hi everyone,
I have just upgrade my Rawhide to the newest release today, the kernel
version is 4.9.0-0.rc0.git1.1.fc26, on the start up, it first shows some
error message:
hub 1-0:1.0:activate->-113
hub 2-0:1.0:activate->-113
There are about 20 similar error messages.
After the message pop up, fedora just stuck at the initialization
interface, it cannot finish loading the f logo.
When I finally got into the OS, it says the kernel crashes.
Has anyone noticed that?

Another thing is that I can't find liveDVD installation ISO in the pub
directory, will there still be liveDVD installation ISOs in the future?

How to upgrade the Rawhide correctly?

2016-09-25 Thread Bowen Wang
Hi everyone,
I found the web page about how to upgrade the Rawhide to the newest version:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/DNF_system_upgrade

there are totally 4 commands
1. dnf upgrade --refresh
2. dnf install dnf-plugin-system-upgrade
3. dnf system-upgrade download --refresh releasever=rawhide
4. dnf system-upgrade reboot

I know that the second one is for installing a plugin for dnf.
But what is the differences between 1 and 3,4?

Re: [Fedora Rawhide Test]Cannot Remap my keyboard layout

2016-09-25 Thread Bowen Wang
Hi Adam,
I have solved the keyboard remap problem. I will post my solution here.
I used to use the xmodmap, but it doesn't work in Wayland anymore. So I dig
into the xkb, I found two webpages particularly helpful.
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/X_KeyBoard_extension
http://www.charvolant.org/~doug/xkb/html/index.html

After reading these webpages, I have solved my problem. But my solution has
its limits, I think it can only handle keyboard remap, but if you want to
add some more advanced stuff on it, I don't think it will work.

To remap the keys, go to the directory:
/usr/share/X11/xkb/keycodes/

The files are mappings from key code that sent from keyboard hardware and
the key names that actually prcoessed by the X system. For example,
=64
This means that when X system received the keycode 64 from the keyboard, I
will map it to the left alt key in the X system, and sent to other
programs in X to get the functions about that key. So the solution is
pretty simple, suppose that you want to swap Left Ctrl and Left Alt, the
original configuration file is like this:
=64
=37
What you need to do is just change it into:
=37
=64
then restart the laptop.

Another thing is that there are several(maybe 10) keycode configuration
files in that directory, you don't need to change them all. I think they
are for various platforms. I just change the file names evdev.

Another thing is I know that there will updates for Rawhide nearly
everyday, how can I get the release history or future schedule of Rawhide?
Thanks.

There is another issue I just found:

today. When restarted the laptop again, there seems to be another grub
entry. How can I delete the old one? There are 3 entries in my grub list
totally, the last is a rescue mode entry.
Can you tell me how to delete the old one?

[Fedora Rawhide Test]Cannot Remap my keyboard layout

2016-09-24 Thread Bowen Wang
Hi everyone,
I just got my rawhide installed last night. This is pretty good. But there
are some issues that I cannot solve myself:
1. I cannot remap my keyboard layout using xmodmap. My xmodmap script is as
below:
xmodmap -e "remove Lock = Caps_Lock"
xmodmap -e "keycode 66 = BackSpace BackSpace BackSpace BackSpace"
xmodmap -e "keycode 22 = Tab ISO_Left_Tab Tab ISO_Left_Tab"
xmodmap -e "keycode 23 = Escape NoSymbol Escape"
xmodmap -e "keycode 9 = Caps_Lock"
xmodmap -e "clear control"
xmodmap -e "clear mod1"
xmodmap -e "remove mod4 = Super_L Super_R"
xmodmap -e "keycode 133 = Alt_L Meta_L Alt_L Meta_L"
xmodmap -e "keycode 134 = Alt_R Meta_R Alt_R Meta_R"
xmodmap -e "keycode 37 = Super_L NoSymbol Super_L"
xmodmap -e "keycode 64 = Control_L NoSymbol Control_L"
xmodmap -e "keycode 105 = Super_R NoSymbol Super_R"
xmodmap -e "keycode 108 = Control_R NoSymbol Control_R"
xmodmap -e "add Control = Control_L Control_R"
xmodmap -e "add mod1 = Alt_L Meta_L Alt_R Meta_R"
xmodmap -e "add mod4 = Super_L Super_R"
xmodmap -e "add Lock = Caps_Lock"

I can use this script on all other linux machines. When I put this in
fedora rawhide, it didn't work. Some of the keymap can work outside the
terminal, for example, some of the remap can work in Firefox, buy not in
terminal.
I have tried to put this script file in several place:
~/.bashrc
~/.bashrc_profile
a file named rc.local in /etc or /usr, sorry I cannot remember
~/.xsession
~/.xmodmap
~/.Xmodmap

They all didn't work.
I use the Programmer Dvorak Keyboard Layout.
Can anyone help me this out? Thanks.

Sincerely,
Bowen Wang
