[Rawhide Test Day] Podman 5.1 Test Day 2024-05-23

2024-05-22 Thread Sumantro Mukherjee
Hey Folks!

We will be testing Fedora 41 with the new update in Podman 5.1.
To ensure a smooth transition, the Podman team and the Quality team of
Fedora have decided to host a test day[1]. The idea is for users to
test Podman 5.1 on a Fedora Rawhide machine and submit results in the
Test Day App[2].
If you have spare cycles or use Podman as a daily driver, it will be
great to have some folks try out and report bugs right away.
We will want more Karmas on[3] and any following builds for Podman 5.1

[Test-Announce] [Testdays] Call for Fedora Linux 41 testing events

2024-05-13 Thread Sumantro Mukherjee
Hi Fedora users, developers, and friends!

It's time to start thinking about Test Days for Fedora 41.

For anyone who isn't aware, a Test Day is an event usually focused
around IRC for interaction and a Wiki page for instructions and results,
with the aim being to get a bunch of interested users and developers
together to test a specific feature or area of the distribution. You can
run a Test Day on just about anything for which it would be useful to do
some fairly focused testing in 'real time' with a group of testers; it
doesn't have to be code, for instance, we often run Test Days for
l10n/i18n topics. For more information on Test Days, see
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/QA/Test_Days .

Anyone who wants to can host their own Test Day, or you can request that
the QA group helps you out with organization or any combination of the
two. To propose a Test Day, just file a ticket in fedora-qa pagure - here's
an example https://pagure.io/fedora-qa/issue/624 . For
instructions on hosting a Test Day, see
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/QA/SOP_Test_Day_management .

You can see the schedule at https://pagure.io/fedora-qa/issues?tags=test+days .
There are many slots open right now. Consider the development
schedule, though, in deciding when you want to run your Test Day - for
some topics you may want to avoid
the time before the Beta release or the time after the feature freeze
or the Final Freeze.

We normally aim to schedule Test Days on Thursdays; however, if you want
to run a series of related Test Days, it's often a good idea to do
something like Tuesday / Wednesday / Thursday of the same week (this is
how we usually run the X Test Week, for instance). If all the Thursday
slots fill up but more people want to run Test Days, we will open up
Tuesday slots as overflows. And finally, if you really want to run a
Test Day in a specific time frame due to the development schedule, but
the Thursday slot for that week is full, we can add a slot on another
day. We're flexible! Just put in your ticket the date or time frame you'd
like, and we'll figure it out from there.

If you don't want to run your own Test Day, but you are willing to
help with another, feel free to join one or more of already accepted
Test Days:

GNOME Test Day*
i18n Test Day*
Kernel Test Week(s)*
Upgrade Test Day*
IoT Test Week*
Cloud Test Day*
Fedora CoreOS Test Week*

And don't be afraid, there are a lot of more slots available for your
own Test Day!

[*] These are the test days we run generally to make sure everything
is working fine, the dates get announced as we move into the release
cycle.

If you have any questions about the Test Day process, please don't
hesitate to contact me or any member of the Fedora QA team on test at
lists.fedoraproject.org or in #fedora-qa on IRC. Thanks!

[Test-Announce] Contribute to Podman 5 Test Week 2024-03-21 through 2024-03-27

2024-03-21 Thread Sumantro Mukherjee
Hey Folks!

Fedora 40 is going to ship with Podman 5[0] and as part of this changeset,
there will be a lot of breaking changes which can affect your
container workflow.
To ensure a smooth transition, the Podman team and the Quality team of
Fedora have
decided to host a test week[1].

The idea is for users to test Podman 5 on a Fedora 40 Pre-release machine
and submit results in the Test Day App[2]. If you have spare cycles or use
Podman as a daily driver, it will be
great to have some folks try out and report bugs right away.

Each of the "labels" of the columns are links to test cases, which

You can submit the results below the respective test case.

Join the Rawhide Test Days: Help Shape the Future of Fedora Linux!

2024-03-13 Thread Sumantro Mukherjee
Dear Fedorans,

Are you ready to make a difference in the world of Fedora Linux? We're
thrilled to announce the launch of our brand new test day series:
Rawhide Test Days! These events are your opportunity to play a crucial
role in ensuring the quality and reliability of upcoming Fedora
releases. Rawhide test days will play their unique role in keeping
Fedora Linux releases on time.

Fedora test days are renowned for their inclusivity – they welcome
participation from both seasoned Fedora contributors and newcomers
alike. If you've been itching to dip your toes into the world of
Fedora Linux contribution, this is your perfect starting point.

For some time now, we've been dedicated to elevating the quality
standards of Fedora by implementing rigorous testing processes well in
advance. Our Fedora Changes process facilitates the submission of
changesets long before the official release cycle begins. As part of
this effort, we're excited to introduce Rawhide Test Days, an
initiative designed to test these changesets thoroughly and identify
any potential (blocker) bugs early on.

To kick off this exciting journey, we're focusing our efforts on
testing DNF 5 – a crucial changeset proposed for Fedora Linux 41[0].
With the introduction of the brand new DNF5 package in Rawhide, we're
organizing a test days to gather initial feedback before it becomes
the default. We'll be rigorously testing DNF5 against its basic
acceptance criteria to ensure a seamless transition.

Mark your calendars for our Rawhide Test Days, taking place from
Friday, March 15th, through Tuesday, March 19th. Your participation
during this week will be invaluable as we work together to refine
Fedora Linux for its upcoming release.

Ready to dive in? Visit our test week page [1] to learn more about how
you can contribute and make your mark on the future of Fedora.

Happy testing, and we can't wait to see you there!

Hey Pat,

The "osb" means these artifacts were built with osbuild.

[Test-Announce] [Testdays] Call for Fedora Linux 40 testing events

2023-11-08 Thread Sumantro Mukherjee
Hi Fedora users, developers, and friends!

It's time to start thinking about Test Days for Fedora 40.

Thanks!

[Test-Announce] Fedora 39 Upgrade Test Day is underway!

2023-10-05 Thread Sumantro Mukherjee
Hey All,

As we come closer to Fedora 39 release dates, it's time to test upgrades.
Fedora 39 has a lot of changesets and it becomes essential that we
test the graphical upgrade methods as well as the command line.
As a part of this test day[0], we will test upgrading from a full
updated, F37 and F38 to the F39 for all architectures(x86_64,ARM,aarch
64) and variants(WS,cloud,server,silverblue,IoT).

We understand that upgrade takes time and testing if things work as
expected, takes more.
We will be accepting results throughout the weekend!

The results can be submitted here[1]

As usual, we hang out on the #fedora-test-day, should you have questions.

[Test-Announce] [Test Week] F39 Anaconda WebUI Installer for Workstation is underway!

2023-08-28 Thread Sumantro Mukherjee
Hey folks,

This week we will be testing the new Anaconda WebUI installer written with
React and Cockpit. This installer will be default for Workstation for now and
we would like to run through as many tests as possible from [0].
Note from developers/other likely scenarios are
a) Test the new mount point assignment UI and for this the most likely
use case will be that the user will create the partitioning manually
using blivet-gui (which can now be started from the WebUI interface)
and then switch to the mount point assignment and assign/map the
created devices to mount points
b) Test any system with multiple types of disks a combination (LVM and
RAID), and different bootloader configs.

We definitely should. Infact, we should probably also document some handy
common bugs/know issues handling "how-tos" in quick docs.

Make toolbx a crit-path package

2023-08-16 Thread Sumantro Mukherjee
Hey Folks!

Toolbx is very necessary and is becoming very important. It provides
the basic and core
functionality for many users who use immutable OS as daily driver for
installing apps with
dnf. In many cases, help devs manage deps, libs and envs.
Functional breakage of Toolbx causes distress and many folks might be
actually running
apps inside and if after "dnf update" things fall apart[0], that's great UX.

I want to mark Toolbx rpm as crit-path.. thoughts?
Any ideas on how to go about this?

Re: new criterion proposal: toolbox functionality

2023-06-08 Thread Sumantro Mukherjee
The new proposed criteria taking Kamil's and Adam's suggestions goes as
follows :

Once people are okay with it, I can go ahead and add this to the criterion?

~
For any release-blocking deliverable whose default deployment includes
Toolbx,
the toolbox CLI must be able to list existing containers,
create a new container with the latest Fedora and RHEL image, and enter it.

Footnote - "What does this cover?":
The images must be present in registry.fedoraproject.org

FESCo has approved[0] this changeset and now the criterion needs to be in
place. I will gather all the knowledge and the corrections that have been
talked about in this thread and start a fresh one for voting?

Adam & Kamil, since my criteria starts with"for each release-blocking
artifact", do you folks think its a good idea to site the criterion? or at
least have it? I am not able to find it as well.

Every changeset goes through FESCO any which way. Since, toolbox is anyway
going to be default out of the box , things breaking apart before release
isn't a great user experience. I think we should keep polishing the
criteria as this is going to be asked for by FESCO and I might sight this
thread for further reference.

Re: new criterion proposal: toolbox functionality

2023-05-01 Thread Sumantro Mukherjee
Hello

This has been silent for a long time now but here's the update.
Debarshi and I decided to re-write the whole thing as a changeset[0].
We DO care about not just the rpm but also the OCI image that we ship
with Toolbx. As a result, we filed a releng ticket[1] where
we justified the following: We need the image ready for branch point,
beta and final and that image be blocked implying we resort to "no-go"
if the expected image is not there at all.

As the basic functionality of toolbx continues to work as intended, we
would also like to block on any upcoming changeset, if that
has the potential to break toolbx or toolbx OCI image deliverables as
well. Read [2] for more exact things that might break toolbx.

Finally, GNOME WS, Silverblue, FCOS include Toolbx as part of their
deliverable. RHEL does the same. It's crucial that we block
on this. However, as the changeset process rolls, we will go through
FESCO as well. This is just a good time for us to ensure
we all are on the same page and have the plumbing done beforehand!

The revised criterion I have now stands as:

For any release-blocking deliverable whose default deployment includes
toolbx, the toolbox CLI must be able to list existing containers,
create a new container with the latest Fedora and RHEL image, and
enter it.
OCI images should get updates in every stage of the release cycle
(Branched, Beta and Final).

Footnote - "What does this cover?":
This criterion aims at blocking Toolbx OCI image and Toolbx rpms. In
cases of a breaking changeset or regression which affects toolbx, we
will need to test well ahead of time to ensure things are fine.
The images must be present in registry.fedoraproject.org and must keep
being updated like for branchpoints, beta and final. Missing images or
broken images, will be blocking the release.
Changes in Toolbx stack will warrant for a test day in that particular
release cycle and regular validation to ensure there are no
regressions.

[Test-Announce] [Testdays] Call for Fedora Linux 39 testing events

2023-05-01 Thread Sumantro Mukherjee
Hi Fedora users, developers, and friends!

It's time to start thinking about Test Days for Fedora 39.

Thanks!

Proposing a QA Classroom/Onboarding Call

2023-04-17 Thread Sumantro Mukherjee
Hey Folks!

I am proposing a QA classroom to cover the following topics:

Introduction to Fedora QA: This section could provide an overview of
what Fedora QA is, what it does, and why it's important to the Fedora
community.

Fedora QA Team Structure: This section could introduce the different
roles within the Fedora QA team and explain how they work together to
ensure the quality of Fedora releases.

Getting Started with Fedora QA: This section could provide practical
information on how to get started with Fedora QA, including how to
join the team, where to find relevant documentation and resources, and
how to get in touch with other team members.

Fedora Release Process: This section could explain the Fedora release
process, including the different stages of development, testing, and
release, and how Fedora QA fits into this process.

Testing Tools and Techniques: This section could introduce the testing
tools and techniques used by Fedora QA, including automation tools,
manual testing procedures, and other testing methodologies.

Reporting Bugs and Issues: This section could explain how to report
bugs and issues found during testing, including how to use Bugzilla,
how to write good bug reports, and how to communicate effectively with
developers and other team members.

Working with the Fedora Community: This section could provide guidance
on how to work effectively with other Fedora community members,
including developers, packagers, and other QA team members.

Conclusion and Next Steps: This section could summarize the key
takeaways from the onboarding call and provide information on what to
do next, including how to get involved in specific testing projects
and how to continue learning and growing within the Fedora QA
community.

I wanted to ask what will be a good time and date?

Thanks for all the comments and advice!!

I have rewritten this

~
For any release-blocking deliverable whose default deployment includes
toolbox, it must be
possible to list existing containers, enter them, and create a new one.

Footnote - "What does this cover?":
Toolbox CLI should offer commands to be executed by the user which
includes listing existing container images created by the toolbox, creating
container images with the latest Fedora and RHEL and entering these
containers.
This criterion aims at blocking only the toolbox rpm functionality and not
the OCI image which is supposed to be downloaded by user's choice.

Fwd: [Test-Announce] Fedora 38 Candidate RC-1.5 Available Now!

2023-04-13 Thread Sumantro Mukherjee
Hey All,

We are closing in on the Go/NoGo tonight and We would like to have as much
feedback as possible on this new 1.5 RC.
Also, there is a potential nvme bug
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2186358, people with nvme
storage devices with
free cycles, we do appreciate you testing this out!

Also, Fedora Media Writer hasn't been tested on Mac and Windows 11, so if
you have any of those, it would be great to have some
testing on those as well!

new criterion proposal: toolbox functionality

2023-04-11 Thread Sumantro Mukherjee
Related to a recently proposed blocker [0], I propose a new release
criterion which would cover that case. There is a push from the
Dekstop team to have toolbox as a default app in the installer iso as
well. Here it is:

Toolbox aka Toolbx should be usable. Toolbox should be able to list,
create and provide the desired containerized environment to the user
without root privileges. Toolbox images should be generally
functional.

Footnote - "What does this cover?":
Toolbox's general functionality as covered by this test cases
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/QA:Testcase_toolbox
~

I think this criterion could target F39 Beta Release Criteria or Basic
Release Criteria [2].

Please tell me your thoughts, thanks!

[Test-Announce] Fedora 38 Upgrade Test Day 2023-03-28

2023-03-28 Thread Sumantro Mukherjee
Hey All,

As we come closer to Fedora 38 release dates, it's time to test upgrades.
Fedora 38 has a lot of changesets and it becomes essential that we
test the graphical upgrade methods as well as the command line.
As a part of this test day[0], we will test upgrading from a full
updated, F36 and F37 to the F38 for all architectures(x86_64,ARM,aarch
64) and variants(WS,cloud,server,silverblue,IoT).

The results can be submitted here[1]

As usual, we hang out on the #fedora-test-day, should you have questions.

Hey All,

The Fedora 38 CoreOS Test Week focuses on testing FCOS based on Fedora
38. The FCOS next stream is already rebased on Fedora 38 content,
which will be coming soon to testing and stable. To prepare for the
content being promoted to other streams the Fedora CoreOS and QA teams
have organized test days on Tues, March 28, 2023 (results accepted
through Sun , 02 April). Refer to the wiki page[0] for links to the
test cases and materials you’ll need to participate.

The FCOS and QA team will meet and communicate with the community sync
on a Google Meet[1] at the beginning of test week and async over
multiple matrix/element channels. Read more about them in this
announcement[2].

F38 dnf modules isn't going to be functional

2023-03-15 Thread Sumantro Mukherjee
DNF5 test day is running and we have figured that dnf modules command
is being worked on.
The functionality can be tracked [0] and this is targeted to be complete in F39.
If users, have modules enabled in F37 and upgrade to F38, things will be fine.
However, fresh installs or installations which wanna play with modules
in F38 won't be
able to do that.

DNF team suggests a workaround how to modify modules without using any
tool - modify files in /etc/dnf/modules.d. if you want to reset nodejs
module you can use rm /etc/dnf/modules.d/nodejs

If this is a problematic thing, we should communicate this to the users.

[Test Day] Fedora 38 DNF 5 2023-03-14

2023-03-13 Thread Sumantro Mukherjee
Hey Folks,

Since the brand new dnf5 package[0] has landed in F38, the Fedora QA
and DNF teams are organizing a test day to get some initial feedback
on it. We will be testing DNF 5 to iron out any rough edges.
We will be testing microdnf's all basic functionality from a user
perspective and will also be trying out regular DNF options and
commands that might be used as part of day to day operations and
scripts!

Should you have any questions, the wiki[1] has all the necessary
places to report bugs, communicate with us and submit reports[2]
