Hi Texas Cavers,
I would like to have another sketcher for our trip to Three Fingers Cave
this weekend. This cave is in the Guadalupe Mountains on the Lincoln
National Forest in New Mexico. The trip is vertical, has a steep hike to
the cave at elevations around 6500ft, and the sketching could possibly in
breakdown or very large room. The drive is about 10 hours from Austin. We
are leaving Friday March 8th and returning on Monday March 11 with about
8-10 hour caving days on Saturday and Sunday. The cave is beautiful and
you'll get to cave with fun people! Please email me at acroskrey at gmail
dot com if you think you could help us out.
Cavingly,
Andrea Croskrey

Can anyone help?

Hey Bill,

I'm a TAG caver and a geology student at Tennessee Technological University.
I'm in a class that is going on a field trip to the Permian Basin. During this
field trip we will make stops at Mckittric Canyon, Guadalupe Mountain, and
Carlsbad Caverns. I was wondering if you knew anyone who might give a group of
7 geology students/cavers a good explanation of the geology of Carlsbad Caverns
when we stop there.

Happy Caving,
Jordan Sachs.---End Message---

Use of Geophysics to Detect Solutional Features in Karst Terrains.
Presenter: Ron Green

Ron is a Hydrogeologist with the Southwest Research Institute, San
Antonio, Texas and is active in the characterization, modeling, and
groundwater management of karst aquifers. He was the principal
investigator of a development project to design, build and deploy a
neutrally buoyant sensor to remotely map the pathway and morphology of
karst conduits. The invention earned an RD 100 Award as one of the
top 100 innovations in 2009 as recognized by RD Magazine.

Ron is one of those rare individuals who combine a keen intellect,
sound business sense and genuine concern for society and the
environment, said Dr. Wesley Patrick, vice president of the
Institute's Geosciences and Engineering Division. Holding the rank of
Institute scientist, the highest professional rank at SwRI, he readily
shares his expertise in geology and hydrology with more junior members
of our staff, as well as mentoring and serving on graduate committees
of university students.

[Texascavers] New Texas Caver!!!

2013-03-06 Thread George-Paul Richmann
It is my pleasure to introduce the newest in Texas Cavers from Ohio
currently living in Ohio: George Augustus ‘Gus’ Richmann was born at 1:55
PM this last Sunday. At 7 lbs. 3 oz. and 19 inches long he should be
pretty good at pushing leads; however, Jen is emphatic that it will be many
years before he sees another ‘birth canal’. Both Gus and Mom are doing
very well for being three days old at their respective roles.

Warm regards from Ohio,
Jen, Gus and GP Richmann

Texas Cavers,

An email was sent to the Texas Cavers list this morning from my email address.
The subject line was Tom Florer.  There was a link in the email to lord knows
where.  My email has apparently been hacked and I did NOT send this email.
Please don't click on the link because it most likely does not go to a good
place.  Hopefully nobody clicked on it and had bad things happen!

Check out the 3D fly-through video of Panther Cave in Seminole Canyon created
by Mark Willis with the assistance of other SHUMLA staff members using
Structure from Motion technology. Shades of site visits to come. Among
archaeologists across the world, Texan Willis is helping define the techno
edge, this being but one example. Google “Mark Willis archaeology” and see

[Texascavers] TSA Spring Convention Map Salon

2013-03-06 Thread Marvin and Lisa
Cave Mappers:

I will be coordinating the map salon at the spring convention again this
year. The convention is just over 4 weeks away so get your maps ready and
bring them along. Maps will be displayed in a building on site. Find out
where it is on Saturday morning and drop off your maps or hand them to me
personally, or to the TSA Vice-Chair, Mallory Mayeux. Awards will be
presented after the evening banquet. Rules and judging criteria can be
accessed here: http://www.cavetexas.org/events/mapsalon.html

Happy drafting!

Check out the 3D fly-through video of Panther Cave in Seminole Canyon created
by Mark Willis with the assistance of other SHUMLA staff members using
Structure from Motion technology. Shades of site visits to come. Among
archaeologists across the world, Texan Willis is helping define the techno
edge, this being but one example. Google “Mark Willis archaeology” and see

[Texascavers] Panther Cave pictographs 3D fly-through

2013-03-06 Thread Logan McNatt
Just got this from Steve Black PhD on the Texas Archeological Society list. Panther Cave is a large shelter in Seminole Canyon State Park, a
few miles east of the Pecos River in west Texas. I know that many cavers are interested in pictographs, and the Lower Pecos is a world-class
area for them.

Cave Mappers:

I will be coordinating the map salon at the spring convention again this
year. The convention is just over 4 weeks away so get your maps ready and
bring them along. Maps will be displayed in a building on site. Find out
where it is on Saturday morning and drop off your maps or hand them to me
personally, or to the TSA Vice-Chair, Mallory Mayeux. Awards will be
presented after the evening banquet. Rules and judging criteria can be
accessed here: http://www.cavetexas.org/events/mapsalon.html

The subject line was Tom Florer.  There was a link in the email to lord knows

Please don't click on the link because it most likely does not go to a good

by Mark Willis with the assistance of other SHUMLA staff members using
Structure from Motion technology. Shades of site visits to come. Among

[Texascavers] TSA Spring Convention Map Salon

2013-03-06 Thread Marvin and Lisa
Cave Mappers:

I will be coordinating the map salon at the spring convention again this
year. The convention is just over 4 weeks away so get your maps ready and
bring them along. Maps will be displayed in a building on site. Find out
where it is on Saturday morning and drop off your maps or hand them to me
personally, or to the TSA Vice-Chair, Mallory Mayeux. Awards will be
presented after the evening banquet. Rules and judging criteria can be
accessed here: http://www.cavetexas.org/events/mapsalon.html

Happy drafting!

Marvin Miller
