[Texascavers] Kiwi dig related

2013-03-24 Thread David
On April 1st, a study will be conducted to determine the exact depth of the
entrance pit down to the millimeter.

Several truckloads of 5 kilogram rocks will be dropped into the entrance
and using an iPhone app to measure the time of impact, and another app to
calculate the average depth, the depth will finally be known.

Cavers will be needed to move the test samples downstream as to not affect
the depth of the pit.

Study will be post-lined if there is air-flow, or if the humdity is above
80 %, or if the land-owner or project manager is not appreciative of the
idea.

Considering the fact that more full barrels were pulled out of the sink today,
I have to assume this is a joke, and to me - one of the diggers - not a funny
one. Jim Jasek and Gill Ediger measured depth of present floor today with tape,
and Gill will update all with a report later as always.

Sore, tired, and happy at a good dig.

[Texascavers] KIWI SINK Dig

2013-03-24 Thread Gill Edigar
KIWI SINK Dig--24 March 2013--Blaine Colton, Gill Ediger, Ernie Garza,
Jim Jasek, Mimi Jasek, Terry Raines, John Schneider. We continued to
dig away at the above-floor-level-backfill materials in order that we
remove as much as possible before also removing the floor of the
current work area. Below it lies a mass of clean washed breakdown
boulders of unknown extent. Several large rocks were totally or
partially exposed and 2 large ones and 2 medium-small ones were
hoisted. Today's totals were:
 7 Barrels of muck
 2 Large rocks
2 Medium-Small rocks (piggy backed on 2 barrels).

Several more large rocks are nearly exposed enough to be wrenched out
of the surrounding matrix.
Thanks to all who participated.
