 Y’all,

I have several tens of pounds of pork meat for sausages in my freezer, so
AimeeB and I want to make sausages for TCR. Does anyone have other meats that
could be mixed with the pork for variety – venison, beef, etc.

We’d want to host a sausage making party - “A Sausage Fest” in the next
 couple of weeks, probably.

 Cheers,
 Stefan

[Texascavers] Mallory report, 8/15/13

2013-08-16 Thread Emily McGowan

From her mother:

It's Sinead O'Connor-our Mallory. After three tries, the lady came today and
shaved Mallory's head. Her hair was just so matted, there was no saving it.
She just wanted it shaved. It looks cute. Her head is very sensitive and she
is missing a round spot of hair on the back of her head where it had
pressure on it for so long. I thought she had another injury there but the
beautician said no, just a pressure spot.

They let Mal ride Tirr's new 3 wheel bike and she got to ride it outside on
the sidewalk. She was so excited, she got her bearings and realized exactly
where she was in the Medical Center. They were so brave with her walking,
they left her wheelchair in her room, had her walk to the elevator, go
downstairs, walk all around the big gym, up and down the hall bouncing a
ball, stepping sideways, etc. She must have walked for an hour with just
spotting her. She didn't have much assistance.

It is cool when they combine the music therapy. The girl strummed on her
guitar and they wanted Mal to walk to the beat. The therapist speeds up her
playing and we all walk faster, then she slows down and we all go slower.
It's neat to realize this really works. Doing better on her cognitive tests.
Eating real food well. Taught her how to use some machines that she will be
using in group therapy on Saturday. I need to be there to help.

We are going on a field trip to the Aquarium on Monday. They called today
and have her scheduled. This is part of their plan to train them to go out
into the community. They like a family member to go, too, so I am going. I
have not been to an aquarium in years. I used to bring the kids to the one
in New Orleans when they were younger. So this will be interesting for me,
too.

Ashima the hamster is so cute. She is totally buried in her bedding and I
call her name so I can put her in her exercise ball and she burrows out. We
have come a long way, Ashima and I.

Getting her hair cut off will make Mal 'feel' a bit better. A shaved head is
actually quite comfortable. It'll all come back, probably thicker than ever.
