Re: [SWR] Public comments on White-Nose Syndrome

I think that a list of responsible cavers could be put together and that these
could be allowed to cave if they request permission. Those cavers would be
familier with decon steps to assure that spores are not moved fron one cave to
another. Cavers could be a wealth of info at these caves that are being
protected. I know that they could do more good than harm. Dont we need to know
what is happening in these caves while they are kept closed for this long
period? Mark Gee NSS 49625

[Texascavers] UT Grotto Meeting May 7th ***LOCATION CHANGE***

2014-05-03 Thread Andrea Croskrey
Howdy Texas Cavers!

Due to Finals Week at the University of Texas, we will be having a picnic and
presentation at Jim Kennedy and Yaz Avila's house in south Austin for this
week's meeting. Thank you so much to Jim and Yaz for hosting! This will be a
BYO event so if you would like food, beverages, and chairs, bring them! We
will have a projector and screen up for the presentation and Jim as offered to
have the grill fired up for people to use and there might even be some yard
games for those who show up early!

Speaker: Bill Stone will sharing photos, videos and stories from the 2013 J2
expedition and will provide a quick 5 minute summary of the 2014 Huautla
Expedition.

When: You are welcome to show up as early as 7pm but the meeting will start at
7:45pm. Sunset is around 8:15pm so it will hopefully be dark enough to see the
presentation slides when the time comes.

Where: Jim and Yaz's house, contact them for directions. Yaz can be emailed
through the UT Grotto website and both of them have contact information on the
grotto email list.

Bus Options: There are a lot of great bus options for those that want to help
reduce parking needs, be kind to the environment and skip out on needing a
designated driver. I know I am planning on biking and then getting on the 801
to go home. The #1 and #10 buses are also a great options for getting north.

Parking: Gill's house, two doors east of Jim and Yaz's place

Rain Plan: Currently an 8% chance Wednesday evening but just in case, the rain
plan is to try to pile into Gill's living room.

See you there!

Vice-chair, UT Grotto

Does anyone drive or know who drives a pale Subaru with large Texas NSS bat
sticker in the lower-left side of their rear window? I've seen the car twice
on Lockhill-Selma in San Antonio but haven't been able to see the driver. Just
curious which caver car I don't recognize keeps driving by my neighborhood.

The Subaru mystery driver would be me. I was working in that area till Feb but
I also have family members in the area so you are likely to see my car scooting
around Lockhill-Selma Military.

Things to do for fun when bored:

Drive around in known neighborhoods of cavers, make sure your vehicle
has visible bat/caving stickers. Wait till cavers posts asking who it
is :)
