[Texascavers] Summary of last night's DFW grotto meeting
These are not official meeting minutes, but several people were not able to make it to last night's DFW Grotto meeting, and asked me to fill them in on some things that happened. 1) We re-elected the current slate of officers to serve again in 2015. Chair: Jake McLeod Vice-chair: Jacqueline Hawk Secretary: Bill Steele Treasurer: Diana Tomchick 2) Since no one could agree on a good weekend in December for the annual grotto holiday party (too many travel conflicts), we decided instead to have a New Year's party on Saturday, January 3rd. Tom Sims has graciously offered to host the party; more details will be forthcoming. 3) For the last approximately 6 months we have known that our long-standing meeting site (the Dallas REI store on I-635) would be closing and moving to a site closer to the SMU campus and less convenient for the current membership. We have tried to find another inexpensive (i.e., free!) meeting room in the same general area as the current site, with no luck. Bill Steele has been in contact with the Southlake REI store (which just opened last weekend), and they are happy to have us meet there at our traditional monthly schedule (the fourth Wednesday of every month from January to October, and the third Wednesday of November). The new meeting room looks much better than the one we currently use--it has built-in A/V and will seat 35 people. The address for the new meeting site is 1011 East Southlake Boulevard, Southlake, TX 76092 The REI store is the first store to open in this new mall. We have yet to decide on a restaurant for the traditional after-meeting dinner; more details will be forthcoming. 4) Four new cavers joined the grotto last night. They attended the November Colorado Bend State Park Project and are excited about going caving this weekend with the grotto at Spring Creek Cave. 5) We showed the Honey Creek video (by Joe Furman Jean Krejca) as our program last night, and hopefully some of the new members will want to help out with the January Tank Hauls. I think I can speak for all the grotto officers when I say that we are really looking forward to a great new year of caving in 2015. We are also hoping that the new meeting location will attract new members from all over the DFW Metroplex. Diana * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Diana R.
