[Texascavers] various topics

2018-06-14 Thread David
>From David Locklear

I have had yet another unexpected lull in employment when I thought things
were
supposed to be getting better ( meaning I counted my chickens before they
hatched again ).

So tonight I am frolicking on the internet

Here is an new epic video on how to eat bats

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0LERSoKfJZY

Here is the Video of the Month - June 2018

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G4iuukXLCTU

Although I am certain 100% that I am NOT going to the NSS Convention..
tonight
was my first chance to give any thought to what the hoopla is about.
The website
for the NSS shows hotel prices, but the prices do not seem to be that much
different
than the web-shopping sites, especially if you want a view of the mountain
or a specific
kind of room. For example, you can get the fanciest king-suite room for
$ 208 plus tax,
per night.

I do not really see anything on the web-site that lures me more to want to
go.

Maybe check out these two links for more information

 https://www.facebook.com/nss2018/

 https://www.facebook.com/groups/163763227667734/about/

My bet is the highlight of this convention will be the caving trips before
and after the convention.
( but isn't that always the case ?? )

I do not see a specific Twitter link for the convention. It does not
look like Google Plus will play any role.
I don't think the event is even mentioned on the NSS Google+ Page nor in
its Google+ Community Page.
( Ironically, I created these pages in 2011, and I don't even follow them )

I am looking at all the tourist attractions in Montana for the first time,
for example: mountain scenery and hot springs.
I just can't imagine why anyone would want to leave Houston to go to such a
place,
when they could spend their vacation right here sitting for hours on Loop
610 at the Hwy. 290 interchange.

By the way, Hwy 290 allegedly has 2 new lanes open each way from the new
Mangum Street overpass
up to where Hwy. 290 goes under Pinemont St. Bridge ( sort of new ). Or
about a mile of new interstate quality road.Unfortunately,
the bottleneck on each end will make you want to hurl whatever you just ate.

I am still following the lava flow news in Hawaii. I wonder how many
people know the difference between a crater and a caldera.
I have tried to learn a few basic things. I have learned there is
something more impressive than a water fall. And that is a lava fall.
In the case of Fissure 8 at Leilana Estates, the flow is very liquefied for
about a mile and then a crust forms on top of the lava, but it
still flows rapidly under the crust and dangerously destroying anything in
its path. Is this scenario, conducive to the formation of a
lava-tube.It would seem the slope is not steep enough. Right ?

Re: [Texascavers] car needs inspection

2018-06-14 Thread Galen Falgout
Bill I could help you with your car inspection. But my question is is it
registered in Travis or Hays county? I don’t think you have to be there,
just need current insurance for your car
