I am happy to report that the cave we are working on in the P.E.P. (Proyecto Espeleológico Purificación) area, Soplo de Los Toros, is now over 500 meters deep (est. 515, subject to a final calculation), and is now the deepest cave in the state of Nuevo Leon. We turned around at the top of a drop. We also connected in another cave to it, Zorrillo, at a depth of around 180 meters. Here's the URL for a You Tube video shot by me at our wilderness camp near the tiny village (two families) of Los Toros. Fine points to watch for are Mark's pigtail braids and the cow skull behind his left shoulder. The cow skull was decorated with LED Christmas lights. His feat of strength is truly astounding. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rQyrLQqA5xU Bill PS - we had a little lizard around camp which for some reason we named Don Cooper. If you wouldl ike a photo of Don sent to you, e-mail me and I will. - Visit our website: http://texascavers.com To unsubscribe, e-mail: texascavers-unsubscr...@texascavers.com For additional commands, e-mail: texascavers-h...@texascavers.com COMPANY CONFIDENTIAL: This e-mail and attachments may contain information which is company confidential and proprietary. Congrats to the new officials. However, I am bound by duty, to communicate to you, my friends, how troubled am I by Secretary Elect Pendergast's ascendancy. Obviously the vote was not based any meaningful consideration of Madame Pendergast's platform. A mindless electorate appears to have been bamboozled by her cynical campaign, which was of no substance, and which was obviously based SOLELY on name recognition. FW: [Texascavers] Cave Names
I enjoyed this cave name thing. Fascinating list, and important. The two sets of numbers got me to thinkin and BOOM an idea was borned to evaluate the potency of these obviously culturally significant place names. Making an arduous thought process short, sorbable for you lay folk, I did deevide the number of states in which a certain cave name has been noted, acrost the number of occurrences of the same, yielding sort of a potency index. And what name gets the most geographic bang for it's buck? Skull Cave at a factor of 0.731. The units would be states per cave, but I prefer to think of the stistic as unitless, and the meaning understood. And the least potent? Bat Cave at 0.222. A listing follows. The only thing I could not figure was a clever moniker for me 'musin metric. I leave that to your fertile minds... And I want to say right here and now that it is not my intent to underappreciate the potency of Alan's Arm Pit. The tape wasn't quite long enough to reach the bottom of the pit so I lined up the survey station with my arm pit and held the tape out at arms length. After the shot, I had to measure from the end of the tape reel to my arm pit and add that to the distance. As a result, the cave was named for my arm pit. - Original Message - From: Gill Subject: [Texascavers] Cave Names How 'bout: [Anybody's] Arm Pit? -- Russ K.
