[Texascavers] Extreme caving

2019-04-05 Thread David
This skill could come in handy on caving trips:

A Russian defense ministry report claims its elite soldiers can crash
computers with their minds and read documents inside a safe after mastering
 telepathy from dolphins

Thanks for the link, Mark. An excellent example of someone writing about
something she knows nothing about and a web site that doesn't care. Caption
about limestone raining from the sky is on photo of a sea cave in granite. --

I am certainly glad that we are all " Professional Spelunkers " and well aware
of all the risks. And that only 20 of us die each year.

Who knew we were supposed to carry miles and miles of line to have
something to hold on to and find our way out?

Yes; I thought the same thing. It's comparing apples to oranges, although of
course both activities involve similar dangers.

Nice pics, and interesting commentary, EXCEPT this about the dangers of
“spelunking”:

Then, of course, there’s the danger of loss of limbs due to mishap or
necessity, as in the notorious case of outdoor enthusiast Aron
Ralston<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NerTo86BE9w>. Ralson was trapped
beneath a boulder in the Blue Jon Canyon and was forced to self amputate his
arm before navigating through 65 feet of canyon backwards in order to survive.
His experience was the basis for the movie 127
Hours<http://www.ranker.com/review/127-hours/30844411>.

What does his example of bouldering have to with spelunking?

[Texascavers] extreme caving video ?

2013-06-30 Thread David
Turn the sound off on this video.

Here is a guy cavern diving without scuba gear for 16 minutes.

It seems like the biggest risk is that the air-pockets could have
bad air.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X9CT3fatBpE

It is unique that he filmed himself doing this crazy stunt. He did a
great job filming himself.

Someone could write a good article on free-diving sumps, to explain the
safety precautions needed, along with examples of fatalities and why
they most likely drowned. I imagine most cavers find even duck-unders
intimidating when you have to hold your breath for just 2 seconds.

Rule # 1, is take a deep breath, beforehand. Right ?

2010-06-06 Thread David
I don't know what the official definition is of extreme caving, but I
doubt it is
as crazy as what this guy is doing:
